Money to join

lol no one would pay to join your forum. In fact, no one would pay to join any forum advertised on FP, apart from maybe 1-2 boards.
Even though that wasn't meant to be offensive I think it could be just throwing that out there.

But if you ask me.. I wouldn't PAY to join any forum no matter what it was about.

Yeah, if you need money, ask for donations with incentives provided, but don't charge to register. ^^

Not at all. If you do you probably will only be talking to yourself on that forum haha 😛

Some would argue that when you have enough members and posts, charging a small fee is the best way to deter members that don't care about your forum... At least SA do that. I paid and their forum is infinitely more awesome than any ''free'' forum I've been on.

I have to agree with you on that one :great:

On the RuneScape official forums they charge 5 USD per month for membership to the game and forums, but 20% or more of the forum users only pay to use the forum and haven't touched the game in a couple months.

If a forum is MASSIVE and has a lot to offer, people will pay to use it.

To charge for membership you are going to have to reach a critical mass. I'd say about a million posts and around 50,000 members. ...

However, when you get about a thousand to two thousand members, you can start a VIP membership scheme. Members could pay for additional priviliges...

My thoughts, exactly.

I'd love to charge $1 or even $0.10 to join my business forum. That small charge alone would work wonders to keep the spammers out. However, I'd be concerned that even that small hassle would stop valuable members from joining.

Wow, people actually give in to paying money to voice their opinion. :S I guess it's time to take the 'free' out of 'freedom', eh?
