So whats everyones experience on Ads?
I have adsense on my website, but how much COULD i potentially really make.
Lets say.. If i had
1000 members how much would i make PPC or Referrals?
10000?
100000?

This may seem like an obnoxious question, but i just wanna know rough estimates. Will it be enough to cover my hosting $$?

I'm not that sure about how much you gets from ads but it is not really depending on the number of members it is really the amount of active members and how active they on your forum.

Normally you'll get paid per hit on your site, plus commission (a bonus) for each time the link is clicked.

I've never botherd with placing ads on my forums in the past, it simply annoys the members and at the end of the day, they're more important than how much you get paid.

And Fowler sorry but that was wrong, it doesn't really matter if their active (doesn't change the ad amount). Like i was telling you company 😀

Google AdSense matters on keywords and the advertiser. Keywords matter the most, if you have certain keywords like "hosting, server, designs, etc." those pay the most because those are great keywords to have (i had a link to show top keywords for this but forgot i'll try to find it again). But ok lets say on a website they talk about servers. They put Google AdSense on that site. Now Google takes the content (in this case servers) and finds ads usually based with servers, this isn't always that affective though, and puts them there. Now Google AdSense is PPC (pay-per-click). So once someone clicks on one of those ads than it gets a click on your account. You can hardly never tell what the amount will be because they keywords might be different and/or the advertiser also places an amount / click they want to pay out. The higher the advertiser bids the higher up on page ranking sites they get placed, so the lower bidders are mostly what lower page ranking sites will get (which is probably everyone here). So don't expect to be a billionaire off of AdSense yet, though most people make a living off of it. 🙂

With some ads you also get paid for impressions which will be helped majorly if you member visit alot and post alot and view alot of pages.

Yes some ad companies do that, but not Google.

Google *do* pay per impression, or at least something other than clicks because I make some $$ without any clicks...

Back to the OP - It doesn't matter how many members you have, it matters how many impressions and/or clicks you get. That is why it's good not to stop guests are these are far more likely to click the ads

There is a theory about ad blindness, that is that when a user has been using a website for a long time, and know where the ads are, they become 'hidden' by the mind, more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banner_blindness

As such you may find having very active members doesn't at all help.

I use google Adsense on a number of my sites, and do make quite a bit.

I have them on my forum simply to cover the hosting costs of it (bandwidth is very high as it's very active) and it does cover it, I won't say how much I make as it varys month to month but it covers the upkeep. And anything else is re-invested.

But unless you're getting thousands of views a day, don't expect to make a lot.

i dont really mind having ads on my forum i have an handy tool to get rid of them

I used to get $2/£1 per click on my arcade and i had like 8 clicks a day
