Pretext:
This topic is the direct result of organization. To reduce clutter in other areas of the board (including but not limited to, the General Chat Thread), this topic was born to "monopolise" Opera Discussion. Don't think of the topic too much as a Monopoly, and keep in mind, there are no anti-trust rules on FP yet ~wink~

Introduction (Wikipedia):
Opera is a web browser and internet suite developed by the Opera Software company. Opera handles common Internet-related tasks such as displaying web sites, sending and receiving e-mail messages, managing contacts, IRC online chatting, downloading files via BitTorrent, and reading web feeds. Opera is offered free of charge for personal computers and mobile phones, but for other devices it must be paid for.

Other notes (Ghost's head):
Opera has always been on top of innovations. One of the greatest examples is tabbed browsing, a feature they were the first to engineer and put into public use. A few other innovations would include the famed "Speed Dial" system, allowing quick access to your favorite sites, "Opera Link" which allows you to share Bookmarks, Notes, and other data between copies of Opera using your My Opera account, "DragonFly", a built in web development console, and the newest of all, "Opera Unite".

I'll help keep this thread moving, anyone can feel free to ask questions and i'll do my best to get them answered either by myself or I can ask in the official My Opera forums ~smile~

I download Opera a few days ago because I am tried of some sites not working on Firefox (I have Internet Explore but it sucks). So far I have to say Opera is great but I still like FireFox more.

Perfectly fine, Dragon Master. This topic isn't to force Opera on anyone or to say it's best, it's to inform people about it's current / future features and general discussion about the browser. People can feel free to post what they dislike about it, or what they like ~smile~

The only browser I will approve of "putting down" in this thread is Internet Explorer, and if you care to fight the fact that it shouldn't be put down, I can direct you to several good resources (including a lawsuit brought on by the Opera Software Company currently taking place in Europe).

Personally, I have tried FireFox several times, and probably will again once I get my laptop. I like the fact that FireFox is Open Source, and I do love a handful of Addons they have. I don't love the fact that you have to restart it often when making changes to preferences, and the start up speed i've experienced on the different computers i've used it on.

I have used Opera quite a few times but i just have never got on with it. I used to use IE all the time and when i used FireFox for the first time i never went back to IE. Now i use FireFox when i use Opera i just don't get any major positives that make me go "I am going to use this more often". It does have some benifits but then again so does FireFox and so does Crome.

You may want to play with Opera 10 when it replaces the 9. series. It'll have quite a few features FireFox doesn't right off the bat. Plus, with Opera Unite there will be many developers creating content for it just like FF Plugins.

Seems to me they're hinting at going open source sometime soon.

Since the reinstall of windows ive forced myself into using opera and now i actually enjoy it and will continue using it 🙂

people dont give it a chance becuase there so used to FF or IE

I use opera, as most already know. I also can wait for the release of 10. Im gonna wait, but I might try the beta. Dont know yet.
