There's always a limiting factor. What you want is the "perfect" ratio between ram and CPU. Otherwise you're ending up with idle Processor or RAM. It's no use having Intel Core i7 with 512mb of RAM....

RAM is pretty easy to upgrade later if needed.

I'd rather have a single core cpu with 4 gigs of ram.
VS
A quad core cpu with 1 gig of ram.

I think I rather have a more powerful CPU since it is not as easy to upgrade a CPU as RAM where you just install an extra stick of RAM when you need more RAM.

I would rather purchase a powerful CPU, than to attempt to upgrade the ram. After all, you can only go so far with ram, before you need to upgrade the CPU to get larger amounts of ram.
