Most overused fonts?

What fonts do you see used too much in design? Also, if the fonts weren't overused, would you use them more in your work? Why or why not?

The most overused fonts I can think of are lobster and bebas neue. They're EVERYWHERE.

Almost all of them? I see Ariel and Times New Roman overused a lot.

In graphic design? I wouldn't have picked Times New Roman, it looks horrible for anything except word documents...

I often see Lobster as well, but I'm pretty okay with it because it's such a wizard font. I see bebas a lot, but not as often. Open sans is pretty prevalent as well 🙂

For displaying "plain text", I think the most commonly used font has to be Arial (and different variatons of it). It's a good, sophisticated, perfectly readable font style everyone's used to. So, it might be overused, but it works well and I'd say pretty much every platform supports it by default.

As for text featured on images, Comic Sans is a definite winner in the overused category. Whenever I design banners/logos, I don't even think of the option of using said font. I might use it if it wasn't so common, but I look for better alternatives instead, which could make my image look more unique.

I've been using 1001 Free Fonts to find the fonts I need, but Dafont also seens to be a very good place to look for alternatives. Rep up. 😀

Arial, Verdana, Tahoma are way overused.

For design, assuming you mean the non-default ones, I've seen Helvetica a lot. And Futura too.

I have seen Tahoma quite a lot. If you are looking for unique and awesome fonts, go for The League of the Movable Type. Their catalog is only around 10 fonts, but they are awesome ones.

I don't think any reputable font can be overused. But there are misused fonts out there.

I've been seeing League Gothic used on a lot of websites. It's almost hard to find a website that doesn't feature an all-caps font.
