My site (before the big crash, and some stuff including the counters got wiped) had over 225 users online at once!

You can get heaps of users online if you get guests. Big forums have thousands

we have a school BT community forum that had 1574 users online at the same time. The total registered users are more than 45000.

That's different from online forums though where registered users are worldwide dispersed. But the ratio can give some hint
