Your Forum Review

First Impressions & Appearance - (Out of 20)

I have to admit, I've rarely seen colors used this way as askin, and they work out great! It even reminds of a movie theatre lobby you wait in until your movie is ready to show. The banner is very nice, with clever use of the film stock reel as an image in the banner. My one complaint, is that the banner seems alittle empty to the right, you should try and maximize wht space you have to work with, and bring that side a little life, as well.

I'm really impressed with how the background color really matches up with the category bars, and even the yellow link text fits in, nicely; very appealing to my eyes.

The new/old forum icons are also a great, and unique flavor for the forum's theme.

While, the guests announcement is great to have, for none members of the forum, I feel some of those could be summed up, and paired with other similar comments, and some really don't need to be there. Like, Creat a Top 10 Lists, seems like that should be common sense with any type of forum, which would go under movie discussions. And make new friends with movie lovers is obvious, as well. I know it's good to get all the info you can to attract guests, but try and limit it, and most of it, they'll see from just the board titles and descriptions of what all the forum offers.

Site Layout - (Out of 20)

I'm probably not going to have much to say on this, cause so far, everything is in top notch shape, here. You top category is just how it should be. From forum news, to site feedback, and new member introductions; lined and organized just as they should be to begin with.

The Movie Discussions section, your forum theme, is very professionally set up. I almost want to stop reviewing and register just to join in , and get a better look around. I love the different movie genres, and how they are listed on the main page. I really can't critique anything to change on how you've organize your forum, so far. I'm overly impressed.

The "Others" section, which i'm not fond of the category title, but I'll get into those later in the review. Seems like you want to make sure that off-topic subject material does not become the basis for the forum, and I like how you keep it in one board, sub-boarding each section, within.

The External Links, not sure why those are there, unless they're partnered forums. clicking one took me offsite, and I ddon't see the need for doing that, unless it's something you have arranged with the forum's listed in that section.

Statistics and Activity - (Out of 20)

With almost 8 months, a movir discussion themed forum isn't easy to get going, especially when almost every forum out there has movie/entertainment section within thwir forum. But, you've managed to do very, very well with the foum, thus far. With 230 members, over 11,000 posts, are very nice stats indeed. I would expect the post count to be just a little higher, given the time your forum has been poen, but, for a movie discussion themed forum, i really do commend you on those current stats.

It's alsp very nice to see, as i was looking through sections, almost all of the topics on the first page of each section, were last updated within the last 2 days, and by a variety of different users. That's always a plus to see.

Staff Moderation - (Out of 20)

Well, first of all, I couldn't find a moderator listing ... which i think it would be very inportant for you to have a "sticky" topic, either in the "Forum News" board, or "Feedback" board, so memebrs know who is on staff, and who to contact if something were to ever come up.

At the moment, i see 2 aadmins/mods have been on the forum; which this is a good number, when compared to your active users list, as well. I'm sure you've got probably 1-2 mods on the list, who just amy be out for the moment. But, from what i can see, the staff i noticed, are very imvolved in the forum, greeting new members, and generally replying to members all across the forum; which does help will alot of the success you have had.

Spelling/Grammar & Professionalism - (Out of 20)

Now, this is usually my favorite section, where i try and give as much ideas I can offer from vewing any forum I review. First, there's nothing much I can count off for spelling and grammar. Forum discussions in the body of the forum, seem very well maintained. My main issues, are going to involved Category, Board Titles, and Board descriptions.

As i mentioned, I really like how your forum is presented, and it's appeal. But, for your category titles, I'd try changing Movie Discussions Main, to something more like "Movie Discussions Ticket Stub", or whatever you think would work, i just think "Main" in the title is really plain, and not real explanatory. You could aslo change the Movie Discussions title, to "Movie Discussions Feature Presentation" ; since that is the main show on the forum . The "Others" category, which i said i would get to, just sounds really boring. One that comes to mind, for me, was "After the Credits Roll", or something like that, to fit your theme , since it comes after the movie discussions. but, these are all just suggestions from me, it's up to you to change waht you like, if anything, but the "Others" title really needs to be updated.

Another thing, that I have a pet-peeve on, is short, and bland board descriptions. Only two boards here actually kinda bug me. The Suggestions, really is too simplstic, you should really grab their attention, and make them aware that feedback, and suggestions are very much need for the forum. I'd just revise it a little, with a little more content.

And, the Genral Movie Discussion. Even i think once you look over it, you'll see what i mean. Memebrs talk about movied in all those sections in that category, be alittle more specific for that board title, and give a less broaden range on what types of movie discussions go there.

Final Remarks:

It's a really great forum you have, and seems to be heading in all the right directions. My opinions were mostly just suggestions that I would change, myself, so, it's up to you if you agree on them, or not. It was a pleasure reviewing Movie Discussions, and I may show up as something more than a "guest" appearance someday. 🙂

What was most liked about the website/forums:

The entire look, and overall activity acorss all sections of the forum.

What was disliked most about the website/forums:

Just how great the forum theme was, and the look, but seemed to wear thin with the text for categories, boards, and descriptions. And, I wasn't too fond with the External Links section.

How could I get you (The Reviewer) to join my website?

My love for movies, unfortunately has faded. I minored in film, in college, and once you have to go through every detail, of how a movie is produced and made, you really lose the illusion of the movie, and they're not that enjoyable anymore. But, even so, I'd stil love to check out the forum, maybe one day. It does look like a great community definitely worth checking out.

Thanks so much for you review, you recommended some great things for me to improve on, one thing about the staff, you said you can't find a link, it's at the bottom of the board, it says View Forum Leaders, http://www.moviediscussions.net/forums/showgroups.php, but no biggie.

I will focus on the things you suggested, and thank you. 🙂

I swear, i looked, lol, but i guess Forum Leaders didn't jump out at me. But, you have to admit, I did pretty good when i assumed you had 1-2 more members on staff. I didn't let that affect your score too much, though.

I'm sorry for the long length; once i get to typing, I can't stop. And sorry for the little typos, I usually use a spell checker, but just got so wrapped up in the interview and your forum, it never crossed my mind 😀

I'm glad you liked it, and will take some of my suggestions into consideration. I don't just critique, I do enjoy trying to help provide little details that may work. And I was very glad to hear back from you. I didn't mind Sam! requesting the review, but hearing back from the admin/staff of the the reviewed forum is always a pleasure.

It really was a joy to review your forum, and it's a great forum you have.
