How to installing a forum on a VPS pls help me i no know how to do it...

Nah, just kidding. So, basically, a friend of mine told me to try to use a VPS for my forum. To be honest, I've never though of it. I'm using free hosting and having a VPS is something I really never had in mind. But the idea of having a VPS really attracted me.
So, the problem is here: I have ABSOLUTELY no knowledge of that. All I know is my good ol' cPanel. I only know how to use that. He told me about SSH commands. About web servers, and all of that thing you need.
So, my problem I'd love anyone to solve, is HOW do you upload a mybb forum to a VPS? Or move from a host to a VPS? Starting from scratch.. such as knowing the commands, the basics, then creating a web server, then install cpanel or something like that, and finally upload it. Basically, all of the processes that are in between buying a new VPS and having your forum uploaded there. From 1 to 100. If someone would have the pity of getting me through each steps or give me a link to the tutorials from scratch, I'd be most grateful.

Thank you for the care and for reading this Rolleyes

That's what I'd like to know. Thank you to all that help me.

Most hosts provide you the option to install cPanel when you order your server, so you can install it just like you would on free and paid hosting, via FTP. If you are new to VPS servers, I suggest going for a managed server so that you don't have to worry about messing anything up via the serial console.

I would suggest you get a VPS and use it a couple of months atleast, before you move your forum to it. Even if you buy a managed VPS, running a forum on it without basic knowledge about VPS would be frustrating.

Learn linux commands, learn to user SSH client like Putty. You might need to install and configure Apache, PHP and MySql to MyBB work (If you buy a managed VPS, the host will do it for you). I would also suggest not to have control panels on cheap low end boxes. That would take some of our precious server resources.

True, but there is almost always an additional cost for cPanel/WHM.

I agree with this, unless you are wanting to learn as you have it. If you're wanting to learn as well, don't get managed.

100% agree with this.

And I would recommend nginx instead of Apache, as it isn't a resource hog like Apache. 🙂

I would also recommend against using apache. cPanel will generally cost you an extra $15 per month. You can get a lowendbox vps with a free control panel for around $10. You would, likely, need to install the control panel yourself. I would recommend EHCP and zPanel (which I haven't tried but looks interesting). 🙂

EHCP was a bit hard to use for me, but much much much easier than web/virtualmin.
