Can anyone recommend an mp3 player that is a "plug and play" device since I don't have a cd drive.

Philips GoGear Aria 8 gb

...is the model we have but came with an installation cd, anyone know if I can plug it into my laptop and download songs To it From the internet?

We have an unopened phillips 8 gig mp3 but it has an installation cd, do I need the things on that cd or any other for any other mp3 player, if I simply want to "save as" mp3's to the device from the internet?

Is the installation cd's only to listen to the mp3's from the device onto the pc?

All we want to do is to save mp3's from the internet onto the device itself, do we still need any "installation cd" ?

...we prefer the ones at walmart since its just down the street from us.

Thanks all!

I've gotten MP3 Players in the past like the Sansa brand, that's a plug-in and play system. You don't need any installation CD with that.

Almost all of the Sansa stuff is Plug and Play I have noticed :great:

Some MP3 players can also accept removable memory cards like microSD or SD memory cards. I know Sansa has some MP3 players which can accept Micro-SD cards. I think if you have a USB drive you can copy the install CD from a desktop or laptop with a CD drive to your USB flash drive to install the install CD files.

Yeah, the last two Sansa MP3 Players I have gotten were a plug in and play system. I'm currently using a 2GB Sansa Clip and my older one was an M240. Both were plug in and plays. Add songs you want and you're ready to go!

Has anyone had an mp3 player that came with a cd but never loaded anything from it onto your pc?

I was thinking we would only need the information from that cd if we were going to listen/transfer songs from the device onto the pc hardrive...?

---------------------------------

I'll take a look at the Sandisk Sansa's also, but before I do...

Walmart has a "15 day return" policy so I'm gonna open this one up and try to save an mp3 to it without loading anything and find out what happens with our, "Philips GoGear Aria 8 gb"

I'll keep you guys posted.

All my family's mp3's and iPods all have installation cd's which we dont use

Pretty much all of the new ones are plug and play, and even if they are not you can normally go to the makers website and download the drivers from there. Pick whichever one you want because you should have no issue getting it installed.

My sister has a Creative ZEn which is quite good - I don't know if it has a CD or not.

I talked to an associate for the mp3 that we got, the box says for xp/vista, but the associate I talked to from the company said win7 works as well.

so...

I plug the mp3 in my laptop and its chargning now, the only thing is, no icon is showing up, "removable diskette, removable drive, etc..."

My pc only shows 2 devices... "PC" and "USB Mouse"

?

no mp3

Hmmm, the only thing I can think of for this solution is to unplug your MP3 and then plug it back in again. That's weird that no icon would show up, because when I plug in my Sansa Clip, I get a little picture kind of thing of the MP3 Player I'm using, which in this case is the clip... Are you able to do anything in the Windows Media Player? Because if nothing else, you should be able to go on Windows Media Player, click on Sync, and it should show you your player there, and how much GB you have yet to use, etc.

Ok, I got it, don't know what I did, I just changed usb ports, though I did notice I pushed the usb cable further into the device, so that could of been it to...

Now another question,

I thought I could just right click an mp3 and "save target as" and just choose my Aria mp3 device, but I can't seem to find it and I don't want to put mp3's on my pc.

My "network discovery and file sharing" is off, if that matters?

So I guess I mean to ask is, is there a way I can save mp3's from the internet directly to the device itself without having to save the file to my pc, and then transfer over?

When I try to save an mp3 from the internet "save target as" and when I choose my device it says "You can't save here. Please choose another location."

?

Almost every MP3 player I have seen in stores do not come with installation CD's. They are just Plug-N-Play.

Actually, now that I think about it, the Sansa clip which I have and use, only comes up with the icon in the taskbar if there are updates to the device, like a firmware update or something along those lines.

I also recommend the iPod series of MP3 players. I personally own the iPod Touch 3G

I think you can buy an iPod and then download iTunes online without using a CD, but I don't know for sure.

You are right. 🙂 I got my iPod touch at wal-mart and you download iTunes and it does the rest.
