When it comes to for forum chain on command, how do you go about setting it up?

Do you have multiple admins or just you as the admin and then moderators thereafter?

In your opinion, what is the best setup and why?

I think it depends on the size, activity levels and nature of the forum.

Mine usually start with only me. Somewhere around the 250K post mark if the activity levels warrant, I'll add a server admin and a couple of moderators. Between 500K and 1 million I'll usually engage the services of a programmer and a professional designer for custom work because at that point I feel the forum is here to stay assuming it's active of course.

I think each forum has very different requirements so one size really doesn't fit all. For example Forum Promotion has quite a substantial staff roster and it works exceeding well but it might not suit other forums. I tend to go with less is more and keep my staff to a minimum.

I think its good to have 2 admins in case you have to go on vacation or get jury duty

It's always been is single person since the beginning I always had myself as one set admin. Over the years I bought in one other person to do some things and jobs for me and since then he's rank never been removed even though it's not as active which can be understandable since he runs his own websites. Depends on the size of the website depend on the size of staff team and end of the day one website should only have the maximum of two admins in one owner and then the rest can be full of mods or depending on what roles that the site offers. And on that note make sure that each admin depending how how many staff members they are are the members understand what roles their take. So that way they don't get confused like a muppet on a Christmas tree with some pages all over it because I like books

I don't like it when a forum has too many staff members and it has to be relative to the size of the forum and how many members are active daily. I used to be an Admin on a forum that was HUGE and we had 10 pages of reports daily to go through. So we needed Admins and Moderators who would do their jobs. It grew to be a police state type of forum where we only wanted to catch people committing violations and giving them staff actions.

For MOST of the forums I come across on FP, one admin and one moderator is sufficient.

I think two can be useful regardless of size so that if one admin is away or unavailable it doesn't mean any admin only abilities are locked away until they return. I mostly got into the two admin approach because ZetaBoards would lock certain abilities to the root admin account, and I wasn't the root admin of my community when it was on that platform and so I couldn't be assigned as the sole admin as the root couldn't be demoted nor transferred, and when I originally took on an admin role it was solely to have access to the theme creator because originally I teamed up with my best friend for the forum to just do the design stuff and nothing else. By the time the service added the ability to transfer root admin powers or assign people to only have access to certain areas of the ACP, we were so used to how things had been set up that we felt no need to change it, plus I had expanded my role from just doing themes to covering everything.

Have as many as you need. If that's 10 then cool.

Most only need 1.

I’m the only Staff on my forum. I did have a few people have Admin capabilities at the start to help me fix some issues but they were only temporary. As others have said, has to be relative to the size of the forum as too many Staff can cause conflicts. When I need help, I would get Moderators not Admin. Now, if my forum got huge & I found someone who has the same goals in mind as I do for my forum, then I may consider adding on an Admin.

I think it depends on the size of the forum. If it's a very huge and active one I'd like to have at least one other admin to help out with behind the scenes stuff. Then from there I'd like to have a few moderators. Currently my forum isn't big enough to have another staff member in general, I'm thinking about adding another moderator once we get at least 20 members.

I wouldn't like to have multiple admins unless the forum/site is owned by more than one person.

I think by using two different ad accounts on the site, you can easily manage earnings. For instance, you can use two different adsense accounts (belonging to two different people)

I stick with the one so that it doesn't get confusing.com 😛

I don't mind having a co-admin. Two brains are better than one when it comes to administrative decisions.

I always say that a forum works well with only as many staff as you need. At the moment on a forum I co-own and a forum that I am currently working on to open sometime soon, we only have 2 admins but for how big the forums are right now, that is perfect for us and we haven't needed to add any more staff yet. With two admins it gives us the ability to split tasks between each other such as one working on the backend and the other working on the front end whilst sharing both tasks when needed. As we get busier we will look into getting more staff but for now, until that time comes, we are fine as we are.
