Here are few suggestions that can help you improve.
1) Have either a dark/light tone of grey for background, instead of yellow. A darker one will be my choice.
2) Make the header part (where text "BumbleBee" is present), more in height. Add gradient to it.
3) The background color of "This theme was created by Branden" is good. Use the same for menu too, and change menu text color to a brighter one, #fff or #cccccc. Add gradient to both.
4) Have a lighter color than header for body background, where Loreum Ipsum text is there.
5) Have the "Your ad here" background match header.
These are some rough suggestions. Maybe once you do it, analyze whether it will be good or not and do any changes.
But the key is, your theme should use a couple of colors and a maximum of 3 colors. One of the colors can be green or yellow or red or whatever you like. The other color should be grey or black or white or even something derived from your main color.
