My List of The Top Worst & Best FreeForum Hosts

The Forum Promotion community doesn't seem to know about the ForumUp free hosts as I've never seen anyone use them from here, although there support may be average, in terms of actual stability and up-time etc. It smacks Forumotion out the way.

http://www.staff.forumup.com

They said they would convert to phpBB3... (in 2010!) The support forum is dead really and it's up-time is dreadful.

This is a very good thread. I wish I researched a little more before starting my 1st board in mid January of 2010. Anyway, where would you guys rank Proboards?

Not as bad as most of them but still not great to be honest.

I have very much expirence with ForuMotion. The only problem I see with them is that you can't customize anything on there except the theme and templates (if you use phpBB 2, or Invision). I don't see what is so..."horrible" about it. If you didn't get a reply within a year or whatever, that is your own fault for not bumping the topic in a day or two saying something along the lines of "I still need help please." and that's it. Those people do have lives, them-self.

The real only problems I see is that the customization and that you can't back it up because they keep the database. Other than that, forumotion is ok

Everyone puts down forumotion too hard. I used it when I was a noob and it helped me a lot. Gave me an slight idea about forums and creating them (so they can be really helpful for beginners). Their forums are also usually relatively fast loading (of course, there's always forums on every software with too much flash or something). They also run contests frequently so you can get enough of their credits to get a free one year .com/.org/.biz/.net domain name or have advertisements removed (and there really are not really annoying or many advertisements on forumotion forums in the first place).
And anyway, the OP gave no backup as to why they think it's "ugly" or whatever. That's like me saying "You're ugly.". It gives no deeper thought than that and can't be proven.
I asked a question - (I already know the answer to it) to see how long it will take for a reply - http://help.forumotion.com/t83984-quick-question#542027
In my opinion, free forums are much worse than forumotion.

I agree with your list. Good job.

Where would you place Proboards?

Proboards is simple, they could use more features, but sometimes simple isnt a bad thing. Its much better than freeforums, and forumotion. But thats still just an opinion.

Someone answered it pretty quickly.

Really? I dont think im the only one here that thinks forumotion is crap, As for lack of reasoning... im sure I dont need to explain why forumotion is crap, its pretty self explanatory why they are the worst. And no one can sue me over something this small, and this is just my opinion on the host. They will have critics, some people will like them, and some wont. Thats how life goes. You have pretty big imagination. "What if someone's personal opinion (with a lack of reasoning) brought a whole business down? You'd be in for one big lawsuit and chances are you won't win. Read about defamation." Seriously? I dont know what you trying to get at, but being a critic wont get you sued. Please stop disrupting my thread. If you dont agree, then avoid it. I made this to help people, not to take the discussion else where. I hate when people go off topic.

You just can't say something is "crap" publicly without giving valid reasons. It's defamation and is against the law, whether it be online or not. This isn't some imagination; this is 2 years of research. You are not a critic; a critic evaluates something based on a set criteria. You may have done that, but showed no evidence of that.

I don't think this thread should be allowed if there are serious legal flaws in it, so I'm critiquing it. You have not helped people if you provide poor reasoning. That's what I'm trying to get at. You can decide to make a topic, but if there are serious issues with it, it's within everyone's rights to critique it. Why haven't you gone off at Snowflake or CodyCFS for example? They provided some good reasoning (like as I have with my examples) for liking some facets of Forumotion, yet there isn't any backlash. This isn't going off topic if it's related discussion. Anyway, you don't need to reply; I'm just putting a valid point across which everyone needs to take care of.

And I repeat, these are my reasons for not encouraging the use of Forumotion: the lack of features in the modern forum experience, inability to add modifications, inability to edit themes to a high degree, lack of proper software under the phpBB name.

I dont know where your getting at but I didnt just say oh formotion sucks! I gave reasons such as how their modified version of phpbb2 is real slow, and buggy. I dont need to give a 100 page list of what areas they lack features. I gave valid good reasons on what areas freeforums is lacking, and what makes them a bad host. Aswell as good reasons on the hosts I named as good hosts, you just seem to be stuck on the forumotion part which is just a little part of the article.

They were not helpful reasons: "stuffed a whole lot of worthless nothing" - yep, that definitely tells me a lot of information  ; maybe that is worthless nothing to you, but of worth to me, so if you said what it was, people can then make their own decisions, but with help from your article. How about Forumotion's phpBB3? I would have said it lacked modern features, had separate parts/codes off IPB, vB and SMF. Like how I focused on Forumotion, you are just focusing on a small part of Forumotion.

I only critiqued the Forumotion one because I haven't used FreeForums. I'm not "stuck" on Forumotion; actually, in many of my other free forum software critques, I've support ProPhpBB and sometimes ZB (although like you said, the domain thing isn't great, but I would have said that the free subdomain they do provide is bad for general users trying to remember it).
