So here I am with more than enough on my plate trying to get a forum off the ground, including the usual struggling with getting the appearance just right. I have been playing with themes (myBB) then go to have another look today and discover (joy of joys) that 1.8 has been released. Now I will admit it does look way better just on appearance alone but I could really do without the hassle of a full point upgrade. Not to mention no theme options yet.

Ok moan over - what do others think.

Once my dedicated server is back up and fully running, my software site's support forum will be running it! 😀

It would have been nice, if they used a responsive design.
It's 2014. It's hard to ignore the mobile market with a new version of a piece of software.

It has some nice minor improvements. Nothing like MyBB 1.6's progress though.

I like the way the back-end or acp looks though it hasn't really changed anything as far as the location of anything there.

I think I am going to downgrade my version to 1.6 again and keep it that way as this version doesn't have enough improvements for me to justify keeping it up for much longer. I need themes and stuff and I don't feel like waiting for them to get released with the theme I have now on TSF.

If you read up on the MyBB.com forums they said that they weren't really going to do much other than some design changes and feature clean ups.

Okay my statement may of been a bit vague but that's essentially what I got out of it.

MyBB 2.0 more than likely will have a responsive default design as they are recoding the forum software.

Yeah, I've noticed that it's been a long time since they announced they would release 1.8. I'm glad to see them do something, but I'm not sure that the MyBB project is really being looked after at the moment. Does anyone know anything about this?

There are some reasons which I can see. 1) The founder seems to have lost much of his passion for the project. 2) They lost the lead developer behind 1.4 / 1.6 and then, they recently lost another one of the lead developers during 1.8.

Seems to be internal issues to me.
