MyBB banned a guys called coNfLiCt. He launched a DDOS attack and demands MyBB to unban him.

This is quite childish and i don't think MyBB team will ever unban him.

DDOS attack is like overflooding myBB's server with lots of requests and that makes the server crash or become unstable.

Sometimes DDOS can go on for hours/days.
Even when the dedicated/VPS server gets rebooted.

That's why you should watch on who you are banning.
Just give them several warnings before a ban.

I don't think the threat of a DDOS attack is a reason to not ban someone. Simply take it to the authorities, then they will not have an internet connection anymore. Simple as that.

Actually overseas cyber crime is taken very seriously, and I have seen people reach across countries through the police and put people in jail.

I'm sure it'll be resolved sooner or later. DDoS attacks don't last indefinitely.

I've used hosts before that have suffered from DDOS attacks and attempted attacks. They certainly do not last forever. It is infuriating, but all you have to do is just wait it out, and if the host has sent en email with information as to what's going on, I'd keep an eye out on my emails in case they give you the "all clear."

MyBB is now back up. Chris (mybb founder) has said on his twitter:

Last week was some network issues. Today was dodgy hardware which has just been replaced. Before that, rock solid uptime.

Hopefully their reputation won't be damaged by this. Every service has some downtime every now and then. For example, phpBB had tons of downtime a few years back because the server got "slashdotted" (e.g. an unmanageable amount of connections at one time).
