MYBB or phpBB ?

I did mean bbcode. Like the text editor is all WYSIWYG now. This to me is plain disgusting. I know that it is one aspect, but I like having bbcode in my posts. I don't know why, I guess I was the same when they got rid of HTML posting. 🙁

Lol.. You dont have to use that.. Edit your settings and you can use the old fashioned way if you want.

I enjoy both, MyBB and PhpBB but over the time I have used phpBB more so I will say that. 🙂

I'm a total MyBB addict. The point about the themes is a good one though. If you can't design/afford a custom theme then chances are your competition already have taken the best of the free ones.

MyBB mods are much easier to install though and the ACP layout is much friendlier. The last is just my opinion however.

I used to be a fan of phpBB3, but recently I have been using MyBB instead. Plugins are a breeze to install and, if you look carefully, there are actually some decent themes around.

interesting to hear everyone his opinion. But isn't it true that if you get those premium mods its better then myBB ? Or if you get advanced hosting you can do allot more on phpBB then on myBB ?

Everyone here is comparing self hosted (or advanced hosted) phpbb to self hosted (or advanced hosted) myBB..

You cant do anything on free forum hosts.

myBB is very good. Its easier and simple to customize. When I first tried out PhpBB3 I had difficulties with the permissions since it was complicated.

I like both. But if I had to choose one, I would go with phpBB3 because of its styles and mods 😉.

MyBB vs phpBB

One of the most common questions asked. I'm pretty sure, you will find the answers from other users here quite useless, most probably even mine. Why? Because like someone said, it depends on preference and what you expect out of the forum software. When I first created my forum, I didn't even know MyBB existed. I used phpBB, learned about everything about, customizing styles, installing mods, and to do other crazy stuff. I was quite happy as I was able to configure my forum the way I wanted (apparently I wanted to create a copy of vB with my phpBB forum 😛). I spent days, weeks doing what I needed to.

I later found out MyBB, when I first saw it used by a friend of mine, I was quite furious he didn't use phpBB. He convinced me to try MyBB. Just like any other phpBB addict, I spit on it and threw it away. And continued to use phpBB. Later, I created another test forum with MyBB. I learned it's ways and was I upset to learn what a great software MyBB is, just brilliant.

My suggestion to you, try out both softwares. Don't stop just because one's acp is a lot different than the others. Find out the core values you are looking for. and I assure you will find the right one for you.
