I like both softwares and both are nice, But I want to know what you think about them. I am opening a promotion forum and would like to know which you prefer and why.
I like MYBB cause its easier to customize as well as theme. I use to make themes for MYBB. But with ForumPromotion.net using PHPBB with some mods and such it makes me wonder if I should use PHPBB since they are larger and dominating the market right now.
Which would you choose? (please post why) and vote.
It's really what you want. I chose MyBB purely because installing MODs on PhpBB are a big hassle.
There was actually a small period under previous management when FP considered converting into MyBB, so it's not really because of PhpBB that FP is where it is now.

The security part is not true, MyBB has been around since 2002 and it is just as stable and secure as phpBB. As for the designs, it's purely opinion but in my mind some are good but MyBB seems to have more appealing designs. And you are right about the features, it seems that whatever features it lacks that you may need for a promotion forum, can only be obtained through premium plugins.
For a promotion forum I would say use phpBB, for anything else I would say MyBB, simply because most of the mods you will probably need for mybb are premium plugins while they are still free on phpBB.

If we allow all these comparison one then we would have 10+ different topics and polls going on with people constantly repeating the same thing in each topic.
