I want to see your opinions about the two forum softwares.

Tank you.

I voted for MyBB. Here are my reasons why:

1) phpBB has very slow updates
2) Provides too many errors
3) MyBB has some great styles
4) Easy to install mods
5) Ease of updates

I picked PHPBB because it has a very large community base.

@Volux, that is the only reason why I picked phpBB the first time.

I saw phpBB had a much huger staff team but its not about the size it's about the work they put in. I still don't understand why with such a huge team it's taking them so long to build they're forum software.

I couldn't answer that either. They just have a nice, large community is all.

After what I've seen on phpBB it can be a huge piece of crap. In fact I had to update to MyBB after I had errors nonstop. Support for phpBB is much slower than MyBB. In fact I had my question solved within 10 minutes at MyBB whereas it would take a year and a half at phpBB to even look at the question.

MyBB is better less bugs, and it loads quicker.

Loading depends upon the host and all the crap you have on your board. Not necessarily your forum software.

50-50 split. 🙂

I would have to go with phpBB. As Volux said, it has a very nice community.

Definitely phpBB. Last October, I looked at both myBB & phpBB. Even played with both for about an hour each (by the way you, both give you that ability before download). A lot of people advised to go with myBB but for some reason I liked phpBB more so that's the one I went with. I don't know how easy it is to add modifications to myBB but phpBB can be slightly difficult if you are not at least a little technical. With that said, I'm happy with my choice and I 100% believed that I made the right one for me. You could also join their support community and ask a few questions. I did that with both eventhough I have not been back to myBB support board since I chose phpBB.

Apparently their team screws around most of the time. That is why it takes so long to update but I do prefer phpbb over mybb. Its more editable from what I have experienced.

So you come out of no where, tell us you never even actually tried MyBB, yet you've been using phpBB, have utilised what they have to offer whereas what you tested on phpBB you never tested on MyBB but still compared them to each other. You then tell us to definitely use phpBB just from:

1) Your logic (flawed).
2) Your past experience (flawed).
3) Your blatant comparison of phpBB with MyBB.

Yeah, okay.

I used phpBB for more than an year, switched to SMF and used it for a month, and finally settled with MyBB for about 2 years.

In my opinion, MyBB is the best. It has one of the best organized template and file system. Never seen a lag in performance whereas i experienced a lot of bugs with both phpBB and SMF when i used them.

phpBB is good for their vast availability of themes and plugins. But MyBB beats it with its performance, reliability, ease of use and support.
I voted for MyBB.

That's hardly fair. :/ I've worked with several Team Members, Jnr. Team Members and I work with Translators continuously so I know people from all different levels of the team and they all work hard.

But I do agree phpBB is taking a little bit longer than it should to release patches and I think four RC's was to much but saying that they slack is hardly fair.

I used mybb for about two years. Till a buddy of mine seen some work i did. He asked if i want to help on phpbb. That lasted for 2 days all they do is fool around. One person sent me a message about WoW. The thing is since then i have used phpbb.

phpBB 🙂
Great mods, amazing support and great community. Ofc you need to know basics of php & sql to manage, but live and learn, right?

Yes, some of them do work but I have heard from two team members that they do slack around. I don't know how that is hardly fair.
