What paid forum software would you suggest if a MyBB user plans to make a switch? Will it be XenForo or IPB?

Oh heavens, well on one side XenForo is more "bug free" than the current IP.Board 4.0. IPB is just chalk full of random bugs so I would hold on on upgrading if you like the design and concept of IPB until they have a more stable software. Personally I would like IPB, it's just smooth and modern, even the ACP is neat looking, whereas XenForo isn't as much.

It would be hard, however since you're upgrading from MyBB I think XenForo is the only one of those two that is somewhat similar to the MyBB software so your members might have an easier time adapting. The ACP on the other hand is nothing like MyBB's. 😛

I would recommend Xenforo. It is a very neat piece of software and has some great features.

I liked IPB admin panel in the demo they offered, i need to check out the XF admin panel too

You'll probably be happy with either xF or IPB. They're both very good software. I prefer IPB myself.

Thanks for your opinion, i tried both Admin panel and i find both are easy to use. But the features and option difference, need to find out.

IPB has more features & functionality built into it. Saying that, it's also heavier/more bloat-y XF is extensive through plugins and add-ons like IPB but is more lightweight out of he box.

It's also worth noting that Xenforo is also newer & still in it's infancy on version 1.5 while IPB is on version 4.x. Xenforo is also significantly cheaper than IPB at $140 as opposed to IPB which is $175+

Thanks for the telling me the difference. 🙂

I converted my forum from MyBB to XenForo, it was a breeze and activity has gone up since the switch. :cheer:

No problem. 🙂 Both offer time-sensitive demos you can try each of them out for yourself and see which one is best suited for your type of community. 🙂

I have to say, Ive used xenforo, IPB, Vbulletin, mybb, and phpbb. I prefer Xenforo Mainly because I have used it the most. But they are all good software. When moving from mybb to another software try it out with the trial period they offer to see how you like it. It is your preference. You can customize nearly all forum software to have a specific look and feel.

I would certainly suggsest the old IPB software due to the similarity with the MyBb script. The ACP is very similar and the software overall is a very nice one.

I used both demo and i like both ACP, but Xenforo seems little lighter and simpler.

I use IP.B, and you dont have to use the newest version either. I have one running on 3.1.4 and one on 3.4.5

I stopped liking vBulletin when they released 4.x. Total new programmers as the old ones left Jelsoft and went on to be the programmers for XenForo. XenForo is good though, i have nothing against it.

So i would say IP.B, XenForo then vBulletin

I strongly recommend you transfer to Xenforo. It has many great features, the user inferace looks nice and the software is easy to navigate through. There is a huge range of themes to choose from, and they're amazing. The ACP is easy to get to grips with, and so are the general mod tools and report system.

If it's an ordeal only between IPB and XenForo — I'd say either make fine choices. XenForo is perfect if you want to bring a nice, modern facelift to your forum without all the bloat of other software. It's really as simple as it can get, and you have a huge library of extensions available if you want a wider feature set for your members to enjoy.

There's nothing wrong with IPB, and the latest major upgrade they've done is pretty nice, too. But, alas, I've stopped actively using IPB in all my projects last 2010 and have switched to XenForo thereafter. I've used XenForo extensively for five years now and there have been absolutely no regrets in my decision to jump ship. FWIW, I personally like IPB's new design, but it's nothing a custom theme on XenForo can't do; working with their theme system is a breeze.

I would probably use IPB if I were ever to upgrade my forum to be. I chose Mybb though as it's way cheaper and you don't have to pay $25 every month to renew your license. Everything about IPB is great but it's just too expensive for me.

IPB is overall the better software of Xenforo IMO. Xenforo is good and I do use it but If I was starting a new forum, I'd always go IPB.
