I am currently running a writing/debate forum and a blog. The blog uses wordpress while the forum is SMF. What I want to do is connect the forum and blog, but SMF doesn't support that, at least I didn't find any good bridge.
So what I was thinking is to convert, but what to convert into?
I want to make it in such a way that the forum and blog are tightly connected. If it's not to much could you tell me which software would fit my needs better?

Hi Shole!

When you say "connect" ... to what level are you trying to bring your Wordpress themed blog and forum together?

I've extensively used SMF and other specialised forum software in the early days and in recent years, moved all my projects to phpBB, so that's mainly where my current skills sit.

I did bring two systems together 3-4 years ago and it involved Simple Machines Forums. I just can't remember what it involved, other than database integration with SMF. I do remember, it worked well and with SMF's mod system, it was easy to track changes and go back a step, if something went off the rails.

All the best,
Cal 🙂

The max possible connection. I think I will convert to phpBB, seems to be working out pretty nice.

I think Xenforo would be the best option. However from your list, Phpbb is probably the best. You can see FP and the bridge with wordpress. It works very well!

Admittedly I do not have as much experience as others in regards to SMF/PHPBB usage, but I do have plenty of experience with MyBB.

In any case though, all of these platforms are fantastic. Although with my limited experience I obviously side with MyBB, being that I find it to be incredibly structured, offers plenty of customization and its clean.

MyBB is the best of the three. Not only does it combine elements of vBulletin and Invision Power Board, but it's also the easiest software of the three to skin.
