MyBB vs SMF

I'm thinking about creating a forum and I've used MyBB before, however for some reason, I'm really looking into SMF. Any of you that have used both? Which one should I use?

I would recommend using MyBB over SMF because a lot of the SMF staff have left the project, so you may have a better time getting help and updates from MyBB.

Though they're both pretty good software. There's no major reason to go one over the other, other than perhaps personal preference.

I say MyBB for their support and ability to expand. With MyBB it is a for sure thing.

SMF is daring, not many sites use it and seems to be dying, in a sense.

^Just because staff fight does not mean its dying. It happens with any projects. Wordpress, and VB also has problems in the past. They are still kicking too.

Anyways I would choose SMF over MyBB. MyBB is still limited in certain areas. One area being the template system,you can't use php if statements nor make a custom template unless you make it via mod.

SMF is overrated. it has nothing important that MyBB doesn't, there are just tons of fanboys here.

I've been using SMF for ages, even paid 100$ to make a forum host outta it 😀

I think you can just pm a admin to fix that.

Anyways @OP what kind of stuff are you looking into for your forum in the way of mods,themes,genre,unique stuff,etc..
