Let's say you are opening up a site, such as a hosting forum, what would you choose if hostingforum.com isn't available? If there was any alternative way, such as myhostingforum.com, or yourhostingforum.com, what one will you choose and why?
Would you pleasse elaborate some more so I can see what I will decide? 🙂
I've had another one voting for your instead of my as it seems like many people are hearing that, and only my would mean only one person will hear that.
Personally, I'd try and go for something totally different to make it stand out. However, if I had to choose from one of the two I would go with my, because it is shorter and as Rapid said above makes it seem more personal.
I'd probably go with "my". As others have said, it's more personal and it makes the site seem like it belongs to you, especially if you're doing a blog. "your" probably wouldn't be bad, but it would have to be something that belongs to the whole memberbase I'm sure.
I'd go with 'my' as it's shorter. The shorter the better.
However, I don't necessarily agree when people say 'my' would make it sound more personal to the visitor. I can understand why you say that but think of it this way... The owner has called it 'my'hostingforum which to me would make it sound like it is theirs (i.e. the owners) and not the visitors and therefore the owner not thinking of his members.
Whereas 'your'hostingforum may look like the owner is thinking of his members and visitors.
