MySQL Workbench with XAMPP

Does anyone know how to use MySQL Workbench with XAMPP? XAMPP uses MariaDB instead of MySQL. So I am having trouble connecting them.

Using Ubuntu 21.10

Is there any reason why you don’t just use a VM and install a small Ubuntu server core image with Apache and MySQL on there, and then use workbench to connect to that?

I already have XAMPP installed and everything set up. That's why 🙂
