if you can think of 4 features PHPBB has that SMF 2.0 doesn't, I will give you 50 FP$. The first one to do this wins.

Also, it MUST be built in, and you can't say something in phpbb is better. It has to actually has to be a MAJOR feature.

PhpBB has a better registration system, it shows group on the index, PhpBB themes are far by better, I have only saw one SMF theme I like, better modifications a wider range to choose from, didn't know if this was what your looking for.

Registration, groups on index, PhpBB themes can be built in(the defualt), you do get built in modifications, profile field et cetera.

He means, by downloading it from phpbb.com and no WHERE else..

A lot of phpBB's popular mods are on other forum software by default. I also don't get how phpBB's theme manager beats it. I'm a MyBB user, I've used IPB, vBulletin, phpBB, and SMF as well. As much as SMF has some problems in their staff, they really do take pride in making the package manager (and theme manager) powerful and easy to use - without the need for FTP to install mods, themes, and upgrading software.

To be honest, I hate how many phpBB themes use Trebuchet MS as the font. Similar to how I don't really like Verdana on MyBB, it just doesn't seem to look good on when looking at a theme. With all due honesty, when you say phpBB themes suck, MyBB themes suck, SMF themes suck, etc., you're not looking hard enough and spending the right time to find a good theme.

Well this isn't really one but I've actually only seen one SMF 'style' that looks good, all the rest seem to old and colourless. Also SMF is in version 2.0? Does that mean it's only in it's second major version? phpBB3 is in it's third and is very powerful and security tight. phpBB is better than SMF, easily.

At the end of the day, software comes down to personal opinion. It can be a never ending argument. All softwares have their advantages and all have their disadvantages. It comes down to admins attitudes, experience, knowledge, type of forum you are creating and what features you will need.

I'm just trying to prove PHPBB sucks.

Why? to you it might suck, to others SMF for example might suck, the view is in the eye of the beholder so to speak

I don't know what SMF 2 offers and i am sure there are other that there that don't have full knowledge of both so it is not that easy for people to do.

SMF 2 was more on usability. There were a few things SMF 1 was lacking, like an infractions (warning) system, board redirects, etc., then SMF 2 puts in a for-loop in the templates to automatically change the header. However, we'll see if SMF 2 ever comes out though. [Unknown] left with the guys to form Phoenix, and he's going to be missed.

phpBB has a more advanced permissions system and permissions can be applied to users, groups and to specific forums.
phpBB has more configuration options.
phpBB has a much better customization system and can be edited to suit any of your needs.
Usergroups on the Board Index.
phpBB has a better Registration/Login system.

You'll have to say new features that are not in the registration/login system of SMF 2.0. As I said in the first post, it doesn't count unless you actually name a feature.

Anyway, you got 3. 🙂

Other than reCAPTCHA, phpBB's CAPTCHA systems have always been the first to be cracked.

phpBB sucks big time. Most people here use it because FP uses it, and have never tried superior options like MyBB and IPB.

Thats not fact just your personnal opinion, have beenpart of a team at work that tested every forum software for a report, I still would pick phpBB over any other forum software, I have used phpBB for going on 10 years and yet to be convinced the grass is green on the other side so to speak. 😛
