Need a forum idea please!

Hi guys,

I'm looking into making a large investment: an XF license, domain purchase, host subscription, and XF theme. That comes out to around.... $250. Only one problem: I don't have a forum idea yet!! I'm thinking of starting the forum in MyBB and once I get it developed, then I bring some "investors" in and see if they're willing to help me with the purchase. Anyway, what should a good forum be that's unique and likely to get some members - not just a waste of a $250. Here are the 3 forums that I've already started and been a complete failure:

AppShout! - An iPhone, Blackberry, Android app discussion community
Advertise PLUS! - A forum promotion, packages, review community
Gaming Chief - A forum for all gamers to come and visit for tips and help on console and PC games.

Here are my biggest interests:

Forums - I love 'em. However the only forum-related forum I could make would be a site like this, and I already think there's too many of those on the web.
Gaming - I like both console based (Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc) and computer games (Sims 3, RuneScape, World of Warcraft)
Sound Mixing - Now, I know there won't be many forums about this, and a forum isn't a good fit for this theme, but my job is a sound mixer, or, in other words, a music producer.

That's pretty much all of my interests, and most important, NO SPORTS. I'm what you could call a geek.

Anyways, that's it guys, PLEASE give me some suggestions on a forum that will prosper, not fail.

How about a gaming website with a forum for walkthroughs, tips, cheats, etc. Obviously its not unique so you might not want to do it.

yes but i was talking to a friend of mine who's really good at starting forums and he said that you need at least ONE thing that seperates you from the rest... what's a good one?

I'm not sure since major sites such as IGN offer basically everything.

What I would do is find a game that hasn't launched yet and get ahead of the curve. Get it all loaded up and ranking well in Google ahead of the hype train and you'll position yourself a bit better to be the "go to" place for information on that game. That's your best bet imo.

Make it a forum directed to new forum administrators. Too many forums pop up for huge forums owners to discuss revenue, traffic, and stuff like that. Make a forum for new owners, like forums discussing setting up domains, community tip forums, free help, and discussions on how to get started.

I agree with THT.
Make something like that. As, even though I've owned numerous forums, they've never done well. I'd like a community like that.
