I mean you cant trust people. They could delete your forum and lock you out of it.

Its all luck.. You could give admin permissions to someone who seems like a nice person.. And they really could be a nice person who wants to help you..
OR they could be pretending, to gain your trust, then screw you over.
The best way to install mods and what not is to do it yourself. Make a test board and play around with mods/skins until you are comfortable enough to do it on your real board.

I can't install because when I download a zip file, it will just decompress automatically.

You want the zip file to decompress. There is a set of instructions in there. Read them and follow exactly what they say.

But do you need to upload the Zip File to the root?

Ive never installed a mod that instructed me to do that... Like I said, there is instructions included with each mod you download. Follow them and do what they tell you to do. Its not rocket science.

When you download a mod you need to decompress it in order to read the install instructions. You may need to upload files but never the whole zip file.
