NEW Anti-Bot Protection!

I don't really think that is that good as i am not 100% sure what option to choose and it may put people off signing up.

Ah no worries, it doesnt actually matter -razz-

Its not even written in php, its just some simple html radio buttons. Ive tested signing up with each, and it doesnt matter, you can skip it completly. Oh,a nd if people stare at it long enough, theyll see this written directly below it;

"Please report all signup issues to [email protected]
Thank you. (The math problem doesn't matter, fyi)"

I doubt itll put people off, its a play on the whole "Anti Bot" systems that you see these days. Secretly, I have not had a single spam bot since I made some changes to it myself, so I have no visable anti-bot protection -😉-

I know package team members will find it funny, seeing as they are forced to do so many of those random questions and such. Some people wont get it at all, but it wont effect my signups. Ive done stranger stuff before, keep that in mind xD

I calculated the derivative however the answer isn't on the list.

Oh, I see now, NOW I find out it doesn't matter....

It may be a "joke" but on some forums there are actually math tests like this - not as bad I admit, but if someone sees it they'll probably close the page before reading down to the 'it doesn't matter note'

So I'd move that above the question

spyka, think for a second. Does "Blue HUMOR" mean anything to you at all? Sometimes I think you just dont like me...or maybe you just dont approve of how I do things, either way my way works.

I highly doubt a forum would have a question like that on their signup page. For any one signing up, a quick glance at the choices, and a line break below them would prove that it was a joke.

Regardless of any of of that, its Blue Humor. May I remind you of what wikipedia has to say about it?
Generally, the point of off-color humor is to induce laughter by evoking a feeling of shock and surprise in the comedian's audience.
(Fairly shocking for the person once theyve done it eh?)

Wouldnt someone actually doing the problem, only to find it was a joke fit that humor? From my point of view, it fit perfectly, and therefore works with the forum theme.

Thank you for your feedback, and I may move that above it, or rather to the left at some point. For now though, until it hurts my signups, it stays. We shall see.

Sometimes common sense should come before humor, if I saw that on a forum sign up page I wouldn't register. end of.

sorry, nice idea though. May be worth changing it to a picture of a fat guy, and the question being "Where did this guy eat?", answers: "McDonalds", "Salad Bar", "Nothing".

~razz~

I think what he is trying to do is when the guest is registering they see that and go 'Oh I can't work that out' and then sees the little thing and the bottom saying it doesn't matter so it is a little bit of fun/joke for the guest.

To be honest, I don't mind it and think it is a nice little addition.

Only issue I forsee with that is id need a fat guys perrmission in order to put that up, and I dont know any xD

Nice thinking though, if I manage to find one that would be a good contest.

Thats the goal, efc, glad to hear you like it. Its really meant to be a joke on the anti-bot system, seeing as its such a popular topic these days. I joined a forum today with 3 seperate anti-bot questions lol.

But it isn't humour, it really isn't funny, why have something on the signup page that doesn't matter?

Surely the Sign up process should be as quick, easy and usable as possible - not spend time reading and filling out unfunny jokes that don't matter.

Blue humour/dark humour is just humour about "dark subjects" - death, racism, misfortune, etc basically stuff that is rude. For those in the UK think of the comedian Frankie Boyle.

I don't see how this fits into "blue humour" whatsoever personally

You could post a picture of Christian... I am sure he won't mind -razz-

I think the people who are joining your forum because of interest will like it but people joining for exchanges or package probably will get confused by it and might be put of.

Well, to be completly honest, I think its funny as hell you wasted your time doing the problem -lol-

I mean honestly, who on earth is smart enough to do a problem like that, but cant read a line of text *directly* below it that voids the need? Thats funny, and since its rather mean, its Blue Humor -😉-

If you notice, the proccess is fast. Its shorter than this forum's, and as an added bonus, you get a preview of whats to soon follow. Isnt that what a guest wants? Maybe it isnt funny to you, it wont be to everyone. Each to his own I suppose.

When he puts in like that, it doesn't really fit into blue humour.

I suppose it is your choice though and if you want it and it doesn't effect how many members your forum is getting then there is no need to get rid I suppose.

The way I see it, it fits into humor like this:

People who get it:
Will laugh

People who dont get it:
Will move on (wether join or leave)

And people who do the problem:
Will be laughed at

Since the last one is rude, it adds to the "Blue" part of the forum name. Since the first is funny, it adds the "Humor". Together, you get the full name "Blue Humor" and therefore it is humorous.

As its been said though, the deciding factor will be if it effects my signup rate any.

The problem really isn't that hard for anyone who goes to college in the UK. It's a basic technique taught in any maths course and took only a minute.

If it were to be something like this:
mimetex.cgi

Then it might be better...

However the way I, and I expect most people, read web pages is from top to bottom. If I am asked a question on a sign up form I fill it in *then* read the next bit underneath which is why I think the message should be moved above.

In all honestly I was expecting that if I put in the right answer something "funny" would happen...

Hmmm, fair point. Im only 16, and as im sure you know the USA is probably behind the UK anyway. Cant blame me for not knowing that that is taught. I may look around for something more advanced, thanks for telling me, otherwise id have no idea.

The real issue with moving the text above, is just that. Then youll read is like this

The following is a joke, dont waste time.
[Math Problem]

And that would completly ruin it :\
