New DVD has "no disc error"

What causes some discs not to be readable righ outta the box? I got a new movie, and it won't read on the dvd player...

Might be your dvd player.

You live in the US and that is region code 1 so you can only play dvd's that are encoded in region 1 so you can't play anything from region 2,3,4,5,6.

Make sure the scanner bit in your DVD player isn't dusty or anything.

I have goten bad movies and took them back and got new ones that worked fine. These things happen.

as f199, said... Maybe the dvd region. all dvds have the standard codec on it so even the first dvd player can play new dvds.. just the region can alter that.
