So I'm still trying to promote my new site. I got a few sign ups, possibly Spam Users? Who knows!

With empty forums, (which I don't like) I filled them up with plenty of threads, however its still empty with no replies, I make a few new threads every other day since my site gives free peer advice. My problem is driving everyone off because its just new threads but no replies. Sometimes I find myself thinking I just wasted time and money putting a site up and then I just say to myself "don't give up!"

My question is, how do you start a forum so easily with the content? I provide good content everyday.

I had that problem also when I Was starting out, and I was lucky to had one of my mates (before he gone elsewhere) to able to make like 5 posts here and there to make up 93 content. As for me I made just over 500 and as an admin you have the highest post and that is not good. So I made up some accounts and posted different posts to threads using those accounts and as I was doing that I was getting as much exchange content with other forum owners from FP.

I even payed people to make like 10 to 20 posts.

  • Make accounts of your own
  • Do posts exchanges
  • Pay for posts
  • advertisement to get new members to post
  • Do posting giveaways,
It does take time to build up

I feel odd making other accounts and sometimes that makes it sound desperate (no offence I understand you are just trying to help.) I saw some discussions over at The Admin Zone about how Community boards are dying in general, I guess I can see how that is, but I don't understand fully why. I guess I can see that tough competition is tight because you got Reddit, Facebook Pages/Groups etc. I remember the golden days of forums back in 04' there was forums just blasting with new threads and topics all day long.

I'm happy to see people that are still striving and not discouraged enough to walk away from their ever growing forum. It's miracle that Community Scripts are still being updated. Slowly, but surly... I'm sure the glory days of Community software will have a good comeback... maybe much later then sooner. But here is hoping!

In this world you have to do things that you don't want to do. years ago like 10 years ago people are joining forums all the time and it's easy back then to now. New forums have it hard. Only forums that are going well are forums that are very big and been running for an very long time like FP.

Yeah the term dying! I see it for some but I have seen website still became big today as there made an very good niche of them selves. add something no other website has and just get posting

If you are not comfortable making multiple accounts (which I would not be either), post exchanges are a great resource to get some start-up content.

It all depends on your niche. Offer something that others can't find anywhere else on the Web.

If you have any moderators with you, try asking them to help around a bit by linking to their friends and other contacts. Try YouTube, Twitter, and/or random blogs relevant to your niche.

That tends to not to work for me 🙁

That's the current state of things. You either keep trying or you just let it be. People are very spoiled and lazy these days, and even making one post is too much work for them. It's gotten to a point where owners are relieved that someone made a post or two.

Forums are a niche medium. I learned my lesson to never bother with working on another gaming forum again. It's only going to get worse over the months.

Exchange might be my way to getting my board a little "filled." I looked into "TempEmails" maybe I'll create two accounts if it helps, although I still don't feel comfortable doing it.

Sometimes you have to do things that you don't want to do. Do you have mates or know qantone? then maybe talk to them and say about the site and get them going

One thing I found that helps is having people ready and willing to post on your board from day one such as friends you built up on various boards over the years which is what I did when I used to run boards. Trying to start a board all alone won't work as people are for the most part looking for someone to follow and a leader who no one follows doesn't show themselves to be someone worth following which is likely why no one is joining.

Your forum could definitely get a better theme. Appearance is one thing that will encourage people to stay.

Just got to keep at it. Make profiles to reply and to add more content. No one wants to join a dead forum. All the forums I used to start I would get my friends to help me and we would just talk to each other thru that. Worked great and got the people coming after a while. Just be patient. Wont happen over night.

When I was younger, I used to rely on others to do all that, and that obviously didn't go well all the time. I've learned that's not the way to go, and you have to be generating new content yourself all the time. I don't really like the idea of using alternate accounts to do it (maybe if it's a for fun thing, like on April Fool's) since that seems kinda weird, but post exchanges are pretty good. Even if they don't stick around, it generates content on the board, and that's what matters.

Right now, on Petalburg, I made a list of the sections on the forum (with the exception of our news, feedback, welcome, RP, and staff boards) and made note of their thread totals and post totals. I ordered them from lowest to highest in terms of posts, and I just go straight down the list and each night before I head off to bed, I take one section and try to make 5 new posts and 1 new thread to continuously generate new content. In some sections, it's really easy, but in others, I can't make the 5 posts so I just do what I can. Some nights I don't do it (tonight is going to be one of them and it probably won't happen tomorrow night either), but I try to do it regularly enough to where I'm visible on the board and people can see new topics that they may be interested in being posted. Of course, my forum is a little bit bigger than a new one, but I basically took on an admin role as the forum was dying, and I feel like making 5 posts and 1 thread has helped a lot, even if some of the threads I've made have gone without responses.

Getting material is easy, but traffic will cost, considering there doesn't seem to be a legit way to barter for it.

That is a sad situation for your forum. I wonder what's on your mind when you launched the forum by yourself. Anyway, my suggestion is for you to take in paid posters for the moment. You also have to spend for the marketing particularly referrals. Good luck.

I just affiliated when i started mine, though i have changed board names a few time throughout the years, i have been lucky my members stayed with me. I post on all my affiliate sites and they post on mine, so it is a little like post exchange but i don't pay for posts, people want top post cause they find something interesting
