The last time I ran a forum was early 2016 and it didn't end well but I've had a long break and I was looking for new forums to sign up on but I noticed a lack of quality forums. Many good forums have died and a lot of the new forums lack a lot.
A few months ago, I truly believed there were too many general chat and promotion forums but I can't seem to find many now. Have forums died as a whole?
So coming to the conclusion, I had a random thought about creating a forum since there's a lack of them now. What do you guys think ..is it worth creating a forum? What genre? Is the general chat and promotion genre still over-saturated or not anymore?
I would appreciate any useful feedback and suggestions in this thread.
I do have to agree, I done allot of exchanges and so have others here on FP and I have seen websites that I did exchange with no longer running or have sold then crashed.
I'm still lucky that I'm still running and alive, Many times I thought about shutting down but I keep on driving it. But how long can I keep it running for? It's cheap.
Big active community's tends to keep alive and going strong.
So if you do open up and forum how long can you keep it going till you have no choice to shut it down
Its nearly 2017 and with forums being moreso a i guess nowadays a oldschool discussion form it still brings people together and still a large platform to dive into.
What has to happen with new forums is that we have to go with current trends and or start predicting future trends to stay ahead of oversaturation of generic forum categories.
The internet userbase has changed aswell. They want quick, easy access, short messages. They are also more graphical. FB, Twitter, Instagram and those means are what forums are up against. Use similar feature plugins from those mediums in your forum so newer userbase are familier with.
Forums are and can be confusing for the newer userbase of the internet complared to what they are use to (not all of course).
Forums are still great to have and create. Just have to look at it another way on how and what we create.
I wouldn't say that forums are dying but instead involving. In my opinion, forum software such as MyBB, Xenforo, VB, etc... are considered "old school" while forums such as laravel.io and plushforums are considered "new school".
I do feel that forums are becoming dull and less entertaining. So maybe forums owners have to implement new features that would keep their user base active.
