Hello everyone,
Well I think this is the right place to post this so excuse me if I'm wrong.
I want to start a new forum however I'm very new to the scene and this would be my first forum. I want to know where do you guys recommend I get some cheap hosting and domain? I'm not excessive rich so I don't want it to be too expensive and because it's a new forum I don't need too much if you know what I mean.

True, that would be a good idea haha sorry about that. Well basically it'll just be like an online console community where members can come a join game, talk about released game stuff like that.
Basically, going into the gaming niche but narrowing it down kinda to a specific console.

However, I don't see how the niche will determine the hosting and domain

It helps to know the genre if it's worth the investment for a paid host and also will assist in a proper domain name. So many forums have horrid domain names, can't even tell what the site is about from the domain names a good portion of the time.

That is a good response. I agree a lot of forum have horrid domain names and you don't really know the topic until you see one. Well I was told that free host are a piece of rubbish and that paid host are the way to go from day 1 that's all.

1and1's "Unlimited" plan is an ideal starting package.

It's only 3.49 a month, but I believe they're asking for a full year to be paid in advanced.
So keep that in mind.

It includes a free domain, .COM, .NET, etc - your pick.
You might have to go by the 6.99 / month price, if you choose to go by monthly payments.

I don't think you should go with 1and1, as they are pretty untrustworthy. You don't have to go with any bigtime hosts, just a host that is reliable and pretty cheap (in your case). For domains I would recommend namecheap.com

Namecheap.com and Hostgator.com. Use a coupon and you basically get the first month free. That will give you a lot of time to test the waters. (Actually you gave me a good idea for a new sig link 🙂)

You can also use a free host but get a paid domain, that works too. HostGator is good, it's what I use and I am satisfied with it.

Of course this is all pointless unless you choose a forum software, here are some free ones:

Of course you can always use a host that provides the software for you, the only ones I have found that I like are:

PS: uCoz is a website builder but it allows a nice forum also. It allows lot's of coding adjustments for you to customize the appearance.
