So Apple has announced the "new" iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display... What do you guys think? The iPad 2 is still hanging around, wasn't expecting it to hang-around, but I guess it's a good thing for those wanting a cheap iPad as the price is on-par with the new iPad mini with Retina Display.

Here's some comments from the blogs I read and I actually agree some of them.

More of the same, I don't see what's so compelling about these updates. Jobs died several years ago and still nothing, it's time to axe this CEO.

However, Apple touts how much time users spend on the various devices, with CEO Tim Cook on Tuesday saying the iPad is used more than four-times more than all other tablets put together.

So Apple is monitoring and recording what the iPad users are doing? Like the NSA.

Again, Yawn. Apple innovation.... dead with steve jobs.

Its all about version numbers stale pricing. Apple does more with lawsuits than with innovation. Sad that it has come to this.

$230 for a new nexus 7, or $400 for an iPad Mini.....

What I can tell them is you get what you pay for. iPad still smokes every other tablet hands down. The iPad Air is ultra thin, and light.

But, I was a little underwhelmed with this event .

Have you ever used an electronic device before? Because all companies collect information from people. It is called anonymous usage data. They are not collecting what websites you are visiting or who you are texting. They are more focused on crash reports and usage then anything.

So before you go throwing Apple under the bus, you might want to do your research.

Thanks.

I actually disagree. I used to love iPads, thought they were the best thing around until I moved to Windows 8 tablets. They're fast, allow you to do more and I am much more productive on my Windows 8 tablet with Word, Excel and Powerpoint installed. iOS is to locked down when I compare it to my Surface, USB stick, microSD cards etc.

You could at least bother to read, these are comments off blogs.

You still agree with the statement. With Apple, you actually have the choice to turn that off.

Don't complain about Apple. Considering the stupid surface would never have come about if it weren't for Apple. Oh who always gets their arse kicked in sales? *Hint* Microsoft.

Lol, why are you telling him what he can or cannot complain about? This is what I hate about Apple, their fans think they are better than everyone and get personally insulted over someone choosing a different tablet. 😛

Just because you're the first to "supposedly" create something doesn't make you the rest - Apple didn't make the first tablet, there's just took off.

Once again I am forced to use the meaning for iSheep, because Apple never innovates yet people are brainwashed into buying the same product every year.

A follower of the Apple cult regardless of the usefulness or real worth of the product. Believes with without question the cult propaganda which installs the almost mythological belief that what they have just bought is the fastest or most user friendly product ever, only to be re-sold the same product, with a few minor tweaks, a few months later with the same rhetoric and complete disregard for reality. Easily mislead by their own egos and think they are being unique and innovative. Often wrong but convinced they are correct. See definition for extremist, brainwashed fukwits.

A person following the trend of technology by buying up every malfunctioning, piece of iCrap that gets put out by Apple.

If you want to buy a iCrap, go for it - but I'll be enjoying my open eco-system which allows me to use USB sticks, SD cards and many other things which Apple locks you away from doing.

Ha, at least iCrap moves faster then every other device!

So, now the official term for all devices other then apple is "Slower then crap!

It's funny because you are saying that I think that I am better then everybody. I actually own a tablet that runs on Android and I also own an iPhone.

I also am not insulted.

You are obviously getting offended. Who has less complaints and more sales? Apple.

Also, I am not sure if you remember this or not, but when Microsoft did their release of the surface, it did not even work. The guy had to change it out because it is a piece of crap.

Not everything is completely 100% working. My iPad was worse than my Surface tablet. Safari was always crashing, some sites wouldn't even load due to Apple not supporting things like Flash (I used to have a forum which used a Flash chatbox, so it would've been handy to have. My only problems I've had with my Surface is that it sometimes doesn't turn on, but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm using the beta version of Windows 8.1 - I had a lot more problems with games crashing when opening and Safari crashing than compared to my Surface. My Surface has never crashed, iOS ended up crashing a lot when I used it on my iPad.

So how about I tell you the differences between the iPad and Surface from what I have found using it, these are my personal experiences and things which I do with them.

Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel: I take my Surface to school because I can actually make use of it there. I'm using it for powerpoint presentations in class, word documents and using Excel for business and finance classes. You can't get these sort of things on the iPad.

Multitasking I'm not talking about the stupid multi-taking Apple gives you, I'm talking about split-screen using two applications at once. I usually have the news and mail open in the morning, you can't do that with an iPad (I think you can with Android tablets, not sure.

USB Stick I'm coding a social network as a school project which is stored on my USB stick. I couldn't code off an iPad if I can't plug a USB stick into it and open the file in an editor. That means I can only work on my project whenever I'm near my home computer or at the school computers, I can't plug it in and code on the move.

Applications Many people think that this is where the iPad wins, but in my opinion no one wins as I don't use applications on my tablet. I have no reason to be crushing candy and focus on being productive in life.

I have no problem with the iPad, yeah it's a good tablet and Apple will sell a lot more (sales aren't everything), but I personally think that they are really unproductive (at least for what I do). All my family members have iPads and I have a Surface - and you can bet when we're on holiday they are always needing to use it because their iPad isn't capable of what they're trying to achieve.

Here in New Zealand (at least where I live) iPad's aren't very popular anymore. The iPad is a $749 web browser compared to what I am able to do on an Android or Windows device (in my opinion).

Very good argument. :great:

The only issue I have with it is that the Surface tablets have been a terrible failure for Microsoft. The RT is in the same price range as the iPad in the US and UK. Sales have been few and far between, shall we say. Then, we come to the Pro. It's a great device, but at $900, it's ridiculously expensive.

Windows 8 is right at home on a touchscreen - tablets. It doesn't really fit in with the home PC market just yet, not while the majority of home computers aren't touchscreen (which are also still very costly in their own right).

Personally, I feel that Microsoft should ditch the RT (or at least offer it as a cheaper competitor to the Nexus 7) and focus more on the Pro. Lower its price to somewhere more comparable to the iPad and I definitely would choose it over any other tablet, Android included. Functionality and practicality are two strong words in my mind when I think of tablets. The Surface Pro is the closest to it, but its price has undoubtedly hindered thousands of sales.

I like the new iPad Air because it looks more comfortable for playing games like Infinity Blade, Fruit Ninja, and Temple Run 2 with one hand while the other hand is holding the iPad for 30 minutes to hours instead of other full size tablets which seem heavier, and less comfortable.

The slimmer bezel/frame also looks pretty nice since it gives the allusion of a bigger screen, and make the screen stand out more.

The only reason I vote iPad over any other tablet is the battery life.
It's the only tablet that has actually lasted above and beyond 10 hrs.*

*of constant usage, including web browsing and running of applications.

Yeah, Android devices (in my experience, may differ for you) suck up battery life way faster than iPads and iPhones.

Also, check out eBay, you can get an iPad 4th Gen for like 400-425 bucks now, brand new.

I like the comments on BGR:

"We're talking about Surface RT and the Lumia tablet. Who gives a damn?? Nobody in their right mind will buy a Windows RT tablet. It's pointless."

Surface RT maybe bought by office workers who spend all their working time in MS Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Word, One Note, and Outlook since Windows RT is one of the cheapest way to buy a PC which comes bundled with the full MS Office 2013 Suite which is $519.00 for Office Professional very expensive for non-student and non-teacher.

Plus, most of the cheap laptops which come with Windows 8 may not be very good because they use poor quality and slower laptop parts like the Intel Atom, or come bundled with a lot of trialware/un-wanted software which slows down laptops when ON.
