I am thinking of creating a new forum or blog about webmasters which will include: advice for webmasters, informative articles, tips for webmasters, hosts reviews and other relative. What will be the others? Also, which software is if better to use and why? I can afford buying a domain for my forum's members every month. I need your advice. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

So you could have the front area as a blog and /forum or /bb as the forum. That would help your SEO and would allow users to get the content with the most authority first.

Another area could be: a specific affiliate marketing area. Wjunction has areas for file hosts, affiliate marketers to post their programs with official support threads (as does DP). Users could discuss the programs and how to make money.

If this was a blog, I would recommend Wordpress. For a forum... I would recommend Xenforo or Mybb. It depends on what you can afford. If you go with either software, you need a good theme and logo too.

As for buying a domain every month for members. Why not make this part of a regular competition? You could have a top monthly poster or something.

Good Luck! It's a difficult niche.

Yes, I know that it is a difficult niche, but I would like to try it in order to help the webmasters. I have tried WordPress but you need much money. I mean that you need money for Custom Design ( 30 dollars ), for a Premium theme ( 50+ dollars ), Domain ( 18 dollars ), No ads ( 13 dollars ). So, you need 110+ dollars.
I have been Moderator in some XenForo forums. It is very organized and it has a good design, but unfortunately, it is too expansive for me. MyBB is a good solution, but why not phpBB? ๐Ÿ™‚
I like the idea of a combination of blog and forum. It's really good. :great:

For me it is a personal preference. I like the user experience and administrator interface that Mybb has compared to phpbb.

Why would you need money to remove ads on Wordpress? Unless you are not going to be using the self hosted http://wordpress.org/.

http://mods.mybb.com/view/wordpress-bridge would be a great way to integrate Mybb and wordpress. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't know yet, that's why I am asking for your opinions.

Thank you for the information!

Wordpress.org is the self hosted option. You can easily install it in the cPanel for most hosts with just a few clicks in their 1 click installer. Wordpress has some great free themes and a number of premium themes you can choose from. Wordpress has a bunch of plugins including bbPress which allows you to easily install a forum area on your site.

Hope that helps! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, it was really helpful. Thanks! :great:
I am waiting for more ideas and more opinions! ๐Ÿ™‚

For forum software i would only recommend phpBB. For me it looks professional. Of course installing mods in it COULD be little difficult for some users. If you have the power to customize it then it will be a great success. Also i would like to tell that phpBB v3.1 is coming soon which is going to contain many great features that currently phpbb 3.0.11 doesn't have.

The usual problem about having blog and forum altogether is being confused about the content on both platform. You will have repetitive content on both blog and forum. Some may prefer to write comments instead of joining the forums. And so on.

Judging from the content you're planning to do as stated in your first post, blog seems to be the best option. Forum is too complicated for that kind of content. The only blog software I will recommend is WordPress. There's always an option to go on money-spending spree. I have a website running WP.org blog, with free theme (my tech modified it a bit). Basically I mean if you're not too concerned with themes and ads, you can just choose a free theme and tweak it to make it personal.

Good luck, Mr.Panos! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the information, do we know when exactly will phpBB v3.1 be available?

Yes, I know that, but the blog will focus on only 1 or 2 things. For example webmaster tips and finance. The forum will focus on more things. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, articles and reviews are usually posted in blogs. But yeah, platform doesn't really matter in the end. Whichever one you go with, how you keep on adding content is also important.

The status at phpBB Area 51 says:
3.1-a1 will be ready for release as soon as all blocker bugs are completed.

You can find out more about it here >> http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic ... 81&t=41977
