over the past few days ive been finding it difficult to find short pronouncable .com domains, even 3&4 word domains are taken lol most domain extensions for domains ive been search for have been available except the .com one lol

my point being that it seems like its getting to the point that soon there will be no .coms left to register..

except hfhfhfhfhhg495958yghdlwksjfbfuui.COM and domains like that lol

It's because names are not unique, it's boarding on getting plain stupid with people making a forum every other 5 seconds with a name that has Admin, Webmaster, promotion in it's name, they're all the same and all fail in a few weeks, waste of time and money...

Nothings wrong with .net/.org or any other TLD's, just .com will be first searched.

who said i was talking about forum domains? i was talking about .com domains in general. my actual name is already registerd lol

Chances are those names will expire over the next 10 years and you can pick them up again. A lot of short domain names recycle (ie. domain dropped) or their owner is selling them. I highly doubt there will be a time where all single word .com's and pronounceable .com's will be all registered.

Anyway, think creatively. Who says you need a recognized word or a whole 2 words?

Yeah, but a lot can happen in ten years as well, though. Some of our forums won't even be up and running anymore in that time period.

I say we all should move towards buying .co instead of .com. 🙂

Yeah, but doesn't CO also stand for "company"? Although I suppose running a forum/site is sosrt of like running a company to a degree, so it probably wouldn't make that much difference.

It's in no way a company.

Also Ashley.

Net - Network
Com - Company
Co - ?
Info - Information

So you just pick which domain extension you like the most.

I think .CO actually is the domain for the Republic of Colombia or something.

Com stands for commercial whereas co stands for company. Co has stood for company before the existence of the Internet and WWW. Eg. Tiffany & Co. was founded in 1837.

It doesn't really matter for Google so long as you target your content globally, Google will treat the .co like the .com or any other international extension.

I thought .com stood for commercial and not company. Thanks for clearing that up, DavidL.

Hey david you are right about the .com but .co is a ccTLD for Colombia.

That's right, but I'm just saying the abbreviation of "co" stands for company, regardless of it being a ccTLD. And even then, like I said, "it doesn't really matter for Google so long as you target your content globally, Google will treat the .co like the .com or any other international extension."
