Whenever I come to FP, I see a bundle of new promotion forums mushrooming everyday. But today, I searched Google for Promotion Forums and amazingly I found nothing, zilch! The only other promo forum that appeared on the first page was PromoJunkie and it is not at all similar to FP. I am wondering, what happened to all those forums we see here at FP. Do they run for a month or so and then close down?

I really found it interesting and thought would like to get your views on this.

I think a lot of people stop making them since it was a saturated niche. Well I recently started one up. 😛

The only promotion forums I know of is this one, other than that there isn't any I actively use to promote/really know 😛

There are way too many promotion forums that are carbon copies of FP, it's funny though because they all copy FP and then have the nerve to promote it here, so essentially they are making a replica site which will never succeed to the amount FP has.

People have moved on the the next thing, at the moment you will see tons of admin forums popping up 😉

Agreed... Admin forums are the new craze compared to promotion forums. I think alot of people are choosing admin forums because they feel that users will hang around more where as with promotion forums alot of users will just come, advertise and go. The problem is that it is not that easy.

I learnt that 😛

I prefer to just sit here or at AdminPeak and just chat 🙂

I saw a lot of advertising forums, mostly integrated with management discussion or webmaster sections, but somehow they didn't grow too well. It is true that webmaster forums might be more appealing as it has more area to explore and talk about rather than just advertising forums. Perhaps people are getting a bit tired going back and forth around so many advertising forums? XD

Short answer, yes they close down.

Long answer, I think there are so few now because promotion forums are a tough thing to really run. The core purpose is to promote other's forums but to do that you need a substantive base of people/traffic to see it (and not just a few of the same few people that are already here). And if you're just starting out you won't have that. Plus then you're pretty much guaranteed to have hit and run advertisers. And putting a stop to them is pretty hard. Sure there are some tactics, but they don't work all that well.

Also doesn't help that it seems like a lot of promotion forums seem to like to copy exactly what is done here on FP without adding anything new or innovative. I mean it's great to want to be like a successful site, but if all you're doing is copying another then yours won't grow at all. (Why use a knock off when you can use the original? The original having proven it's success and the history of various knock offs being pretty much dead in a month.)

I also think people have rather high expectations, like they expect that their site will just take off and be crazy popular. A notion which ultimately leads to failure because it won't take off like that (especially if they've done nothing to differentiate themselves).
They may also think that it's so easy to run a site or that because FP does it, they can too and in the process grossly over-estimate their skill or grossly under-estimate the difficulty.

So a combination of those factors means that sites ultimately fail. Granted I've never run a promotion site before so there may well be intricacies I'm not aware of.

This may be because the forums are not search engine optimized for the keywords you are searching.

The reason you find this site first every time is because of the exact match domain.

No, that has nothing to do with it. Nobody wants to go to an inactive forum to promote/talk about being an admin. Most of these forums have 300 posts, 8 members (and of the 8 members, 6 are staff), and 0 originality.

You can still advertise your site on webmaster and admin forums but less services now...

-- 07 May 2012, 17:48 --

You can still advertise your site on webmaster and admin forums but less services now...
