The newest law in the Philippines is the no smoking law which prohibits smoking in public places that includes the streets. So if the place has no smoking area then a smoker cannot do his thing. Obviously, the law was meant to discourage smokers. Some quarters are saying that instead of the no smoking law, why not just make the manufacture and sale of cigarettes illegao? That would solve the problem faster than the mere discouragement. Let us wait and see if this law can be fully implemented.

Where I live, it is already against the law to smoke in public places, like restaurants and hospitals. Also, they made it illegal to smoke in a motor vehicle if you have one or more children in the vehicle with you that is under 6 years of age, weighs less than 60 pounds and is in a car seat.

Oh it can and will be fully implemented. It's also the case here in Ireland since the early 00's. You can't smoke inside on any public property, you can only smoke in an outdoor designated smoking area. You also cannot smoke anywhere on the grounds of most hospitals, not even outside. You cannot smoke or use e-cigs on public transport either.

Similar to Grimalkin, you can't smoke or use an e-cig in a car with a person who is under 18 years old.

I have never smoked in my life, but I do remember being a teen and being in a pub where you almost couldn't see your hand in front of you. I couldn't really go into certain places because my eyes react to smoke the same way as onions. LOL!

The other side to this is that pubs and other places that sell alcohol were forced to be much cleaner. Bwuahahah! When the smoking ban came in, the smell of stale smoke was replaced by the disgusting smell of stale alcohol spillages. You will probably notice this too. XD. Now they actually clean their upholstery to keep it fresh.

So children 7 and up are free game, that's horrible.

I know, right? I don't think you should be allowed to smoke with any minor in the car, regardless of age. I mean, you don't give someone the choice to smoke until their 18 years old or older so why let someone else smoke around them, especially when they are confined to an enclosed space and can't get away from it?

I truly believe this should be a law everywhere that it isn't already. Not only is it a disgusting habit from a stench perspective, it's also disgusting to see cig butts littering the ground.

Well here in the UK, you can't smoke in places like Pubs and things now. You have to go outside, they're thinking of banning you from smoking in cars. I agree with it.

We have had this legislation for quite some time and I fully support the legislation.

Honestly a lot of them. You'd be surprised.

We have this law here already too and in cars you can't smoke with a child under 16 years old. I support any law that restricts smoking. Just because others want to smoke and poison themselves doesn't mean we should all have to deal with it.

As per the news reports, the government is thinking of modifying the law because some quarters are complaining that the law is too harsh. However, I don't think it will be modified because it needs to pass congress again. Anyway, being a non-smoker myself, I am for that law although I also care for the smokers who have the right to their vices. Again, a smoking area would be a good compromise.

There are a lot of parents that have done it but I agree with Hissae. I have just as much right to breath clean air as someone else does to smoke. When in a confined space, I think the smoker should get up and have to go outside to smoke. You can't ask those of us that are non-smokers to hold our breath when we enter an establishment so that we don't have to breath in cigarette smoke from others.
