No sound on WMP

I am on Windows Media Player for XP. The sound is all the way up and not muted, but I hear nothing. What I usually do is convert the video to mp4 and use quicktime, but can someone help me?

Maybe you need a Codec which is like a plug-in which allows you to play files like Divx video. I recommend K-Lite codec pack.

The weird thing is that WMP won't play the sound from .wmv files.

Tools -> Options -> Devices -> Speakers

Make sure you're using the correct audio device.
