Would anyone consider using an extension other than a .com? In such a situation you might have to promote the domain extension part of the name along with the name so people will remember it. For instance, UsedCars.com could be advertised as Used Cars, but UsedCars.biz would need to be advertised as UsedCars.biz.

I always will consider using other domain extensions, as that helps brand what I want to do with what website I want to run.

A lot of them prefer to have .com domains for their websites. However, there are a lot of popular websites that use extensions such as .net (FP, for instance) and .org and .in. Other extensions such as .biz and country specific extensions are less popular owing to the fact that they carry with them, a niche specific label thus biasing the user. But from my personal experience, domain extensions such as .com, .net and .org donot change popularity outcome much.

Actually, a lot of people don't pay attention to domain names anymore and probably look up websites via search engines or social media. I guess that would be the irony.

For almost gTLD domains, they're all good choices. However, it depends on what purpose you should buy your domain, building your own business or investment? And depend on who are your target audiences, if someone build a website for his local customers then ccTLD domains the best choice. However .COM is the best and then .NET, .ORG, .INFO,...For ccTLD, I think those are .IN, .CO, .IO, .ME,...
IMO

.ORG should only be used for non-profits. .CO looks too much like a chopped of .COM .INFO is good, but are people really using it for information?
