Sorry, this is coming from someone who's still inexperienced in a world of owning a forum, but you know how on Forum Promotion (this forum, actually) when you try signing in or registering on a proxy, you automatically get that, "you have been permanently banned from this forum" message? Is there like a mod or something you guys installed that automatically keeps proxies away from this place? I was just wondering because I would like an anti-proxy mod installed on Chatting Time, and I was wondering if you guys had something you used here that automatically bans proxies? Or is it something you used in the Cpanel or ACP or what did you do?

If you get banned for a proxy, how would you know what the message says and be able to post it here?

Because I'm not sure what it bans by, I just know I've been able to see the message before. Hold on, I'll edit the post and show you in a minute.

I got a 404 forbidden error as a guest.

This is interesting, because last time i tried coming on here on a proxy, it said that I was permanently banned from the forum. That might have been a different situation too, though... 😕

If using a proxy, 1 of 4 things should happen (on this site):
1) When accessing any page of the site, you are given an error page (403) which gives some information about why you are seeing the error and some other info. You can also get a 503 error.
2) You can access the site although when you register or try to log in using the proxy, you will get the same error as above.
3) You will get a typical phpBB3 "Your IP has been permanently banned" error
4) You can access and signup and register with no problems.

It is impossible (near enough) to stop all proxies. There is no real easy solution and it will take alot of time and even then, it is far from being 100% effective.

I would be interested as to what proxy you did use that gave you the typical phpBB ip banned error as ideally you shouldn't even get to that point.
