Okay, as a security measure on Chatting Time, newly registered users cannot add signatures until they reach a certain amount of posts. This is to help cut down on spam, you know, to stop people from coming in, posting links in the most unlikely places, and then just leaving them. Well, lately, we've been getting a few complaints about this. I'm not taking it off either as it's just another spam measure that we feel needs to be taken. What are your opinions? We also have it this way as we are not an advertisement forum as well.

Bad idea, the staff team should be watching out for spam and removing it when it happens instead of inconveniencing new members. When a member joins a forum and has very limited permissions, it is a turn off and sort of sets the tone for how much they want to contribute to the forum. 1st impressions are key. If your members get a bad 1st impression because they are getting hit with all sorts of error-message screens due to paranoia from the forum management, chances are they are just going to click over to the next 1 billion forums that are just like yours.

I agree. I've been a part of forums where you needed around 50-100 posts to edit your signature, and well...I don't go around there much. Members like to personalize things whenever they can, and a lot of them won't even bother if they aren't able to.

Maybe you could try disabling linking in signatures.

As far as not allowing advertising, meh. Personally I dislike it, but I can see both sides of the argument.

I can see theezy's point, but sometimes if you are getting a lot of spam, you really have no choice but to introduce measures like these. However, as Puma suggested, I'd allow new members to have signatures, just don't let them include links in those signatures.

We got a lot of spam back in August, which is why we had no choice but to introduce these new features. I think I'll be reporting this post so the topic can be locked.
