Hello FP,

I thought I would bring up this topic because there is alot of stories and headlines circulating around at the moment.

I wanted to know your opinion, is the NSA really invading people's privacy by being able to tap in to phone conversations, internet chat logs, emails with unauthorized access by stating it's to counter terrorism?

Or is it just for their own personal agenda and motives? personally I believe that with the amount of power they have and technology this is nothing new and I believe they may have been doing it for awhile before it became such a huge concern in the media.

What are your thoughts?

I think the NSA mainly spy on suspicious people from foreign countries, internal threats like homegrown terrorism from US citizens, and religious radicals who are all very dangerous.

Although, I read on blogs that there are unethical NSA staff who use their power to spy on their lovers, friends, and people they know while they should used their time to stop attacks on the US by gathering information to pass on to the authorities like local law enforcement, FBI, Secret Service, and CIA.

The US maybe unsafer if the government is unaware of terrorism, threats from foreign countries, and radicals, so the NSA is a necessary service to maintain public safety since there is only so much local police stations can do to find radicals.

Hard to tell to be honest. On the one hand, obviously they're trying to spy on terrorists and spies sent by other countries. It's pretty much the most logical thing to do.

On the other hand, I've always suspected the likes of the US government is so desperate for control at all costs they'll happily spy on everyone in some desperate attempt to stop any future political changes.

I think it is being done under the guise of security. If the spying had been going on since 2006, then why didn't this thwart the terrorist attacks and threats that have taken place since then?

It was the power of the people working with law enforcement that brought the terrorists behind the Boston Bombings to justice.. not the NSA.

I read a man found the Boston Bomber in his boat, and he informed the police after finding a bloodied man hiding in his boat park at his dock.

I think terrorist still mainly use face to face conversations in the woods, don't talk much, or act alone, and attack at random times as quickly as possible to avoid being caught like James Holmes who killed a lot of people at a movie theatre in Colorado, so it is usually up to the local police officers to capture them when people report suspicous people to the police.

let's get to the heart of the matter here,

I have an opinion about the NSA, whilst PRISM has the power to uncover alot of information deemed private, it also does have a strong point, since 9/11 I believe the pressure from the public to come up with a solution on the government I think they saw a response they deemed necessary, I mean why point hands at the NSA when you've got terrorists also trying to hack and monitor people's private information civilian phones, accounts etc, why not have the NSA use counter intelligence against these terrorists?

The Democrats are using the NSA to secure the elections and destroy the right-wing/conservative people of the world.

End of Story.

I have a degree in Homeland Security and Intelligence studies. I am for the mitigation of terrorism, whether international or domestic. However, I am pro-Constitution. I believe that intel analysis should be done in non-intrusive ways only.

The NSA has to spy on you, if not people can come into the country, plan an attack, get away with it, and leave without them being able to stop it before it actually happens.

And they are looking for terrorists, no one else. If they were looking at drug busts or things that would defeat their purpose. They are called "National Security Agency" for a reason, NATIONAL....I highly doubt they care about what you send unless you plan on bombing the U.S. =P

Except if you're using TOR or Globus (VPN designed by Anonymous) the NSA is blind to tracking you and the sites you visit. Now used to in 2013....TOR was almost compromised. But since the Nodes were updated, the NSA is clueless and still have no luck decrypting it.
