Personally I can't stand that a group of scientists had developed such a strong and despicable weapon. A weapon that can wipe out 1 million people in a a blink of the eye is ridiculous. Killing innocent people of God with a weapon of this...I can't even finish my sentence. I can't stand nuclear weapons.

That's the nature of the war. By putting it that way, you are saying President Truman is equivalent to Adolf Hitler. Truman ordered the release of the atomic bomb which would subsequently kill millions; Hitler ordered the capture of millions of Jews which subsequently would be killed in camps etc. Surely that isn't a fair comparison where one had a reason to end the war and the other to start a war and probably had mental issues.

I wish they just never existed, but since they do, we need to make sure they are in the hands of trusty countries. Most of you all know I'm very liberal but I don't like the idea of Iran or North Korea having nuclear weapons.

What do you think the world would be like if Einstein never thought up the ideas that would help make such weapons possible? What would the world be like if the United States never dropped the weapons on Japan in WW2?

We'd all be speaking German.

Why German? Germany was already defeated and occupied by allied forces at the time of the atomic bomb. Someone hasn't been through middle school history class yet 😛

But then again, you have to look at it from their perspective as well. They don't like the idea of USA having nuclear weapons.

What are your views on nuclear based weaponry?

What do you think the world would be like if Einstein never thought up the ideas that would help make such weapons possible? What would the world be like if the United States never dropped the weapons on Japan in WW2?

Also, what do you think would the world be like if say Germany or Japan had become the first nuclear power?

Japan was already on the verge of collapse before the first atomic bomb was dropped. It would have ended more or less the same if we hadn't dropped it.

That's not entirely true. They had mass control over Manchuria and Northern China, USSR and neighboring states. Although they were defeated in the South, they still had major coverage over the Eastern world.

"It always appeared to us, atomic bomb or no atomic bomb, the Japanese were already on the verge of collapse." - Henry Arnold, commanding General of the Army AF

The US had been running massive air campaigns against the mainland during early '45, one of which killed 100,000 people in Tokyo. Not to mention the Soviets had a nearly million strong force that invaded through Manchuria. There was absolutely no way for the Japanese military to fend off the Soviets from the west and the United States from the Pacific.

There could have been. The US Air Force relied on many resources to keep them going, eg. diesel. Without diesel, they could not make air routines. If the Japanese were smart, they should have eliminated diesel bases, maybe during the Pearl Harbour attacks.

USSR soldiers relied on railway tracks and roads to navigate themselves through to China and Korea. Removing these, like they had done in WW1, would have helped the Japanese.

Nonetheless, I never disagreed with you, but there could have been ways.

Humans are the most clinically insane species on earth. We will do anything to get we want, it is just what we do.

It is that philosophy exactly which gets people killed. What if someone who happens to own a nuclear arsenal and a magic nuclear proof bunker is of that opinion as well?

And concerning Japan: The main concern was that the Japanese would kill thousands of invading Americans in the process of deteriorating. Any land invasion of japan would have resulted in massive resistance.
