HI,

i have noticed a forum that is running nulled forum software, what should i do?.

it just happens that the site in question is posted around FP, and that's how i found it.

what should i do?

Report the software to the main development website and report the FP topic.

well, the topic is a exchange topic and the person that made that post (where i found the site) is not the owner.

i'd like to post on fp to warn people, but dont want people to hate me, what should i do?

We try not to get involved in these matters. If the forum is running a nulled forum software then let the software provider deal with it. Xenforo, IPB and vb all allow users to report sites possibly using nulled software. I have reported many sites over the years and they do seem to act quickly on reports.

OK thanks.

The software provider should be notified. Nulled versions should only be used for testing on local machines or trying it on your local machine before buying the software.

Nulled software should not be used at all. That is what the forum software's demo is for.

I know but sometimes you need access to the who pieces to test all the elements. But only on a local desktop. It must not be accessible to the public.

Even then, you are still using illegal software. Regardless if it is public or not.

The demo should be adequate even for that. There's really no reason to pirate forum software these days unless you're an a-hole.

How do we know if the forum is using a nulled script?

They might mention it, sometimes the site they got it from includes a link in the footer (and other stuff, like ads from them, malicious code, etc).

It usually says in the footer "nulled by ..."

Not really.

There are different ways of detecting nulled software. The most common one is the copyright link in the footer not linking back to the developers site. There are also installed scripts in the software that can be visited and you can see there.

That what i meant by in the footer. The Script is www.site/com/install/update403.php i think

You would also have to occasionally deal with some of the pirates adding viruses or backdoor stuff that will screw you over. A lot of the "I've been hacked" instances actually come from those and not a security hole in a modification or the software itself.

Report the site to the forum developers AND their host. Reporting the site to a host will usually get them to investigate quickly as well.
