Any New Yorkers out there? Well the request for the .nyc domain has been approved.

Interesting. I do want to live in NYC some day. 😛
Will you get a .nyc? I can't see anyone out of NY wanting one 😛

You can't get one if you don't live or have a business presence in NYC. Basically, it looks like you'll have to have a NYC address to buy it. Kinda like the .US requires you have a US address.

I'll probably get one if and when I move there, it would be cool.

Ah I see 🙂

Interesting idea. I actually kind of like it, it may promote the city's local businesses a bit more.

Pretty cool idea, I think though if a lot of states/cities get these it would really saturate the domain market and just have way too many TLD's in my opinion.

I can't see any good coming out of these new gTLDs.

Are you implying that some bad will come out of it? lol.

I don't see too many more areas that could make it truly work out. Chicago, DC, and LA are probably the only ones similar enough in size, yet ".chi" sounds line China to me, ".dc" and ".la" could work, but I just don't see it happening.

States already have their own domain extensions too, so you saying "if a lot of states/cities get these" isn't really accurate considering states have had 'these' for awhile and nothing bad has happened.

Interesting. I live in New York, but I'm not sure if I will ever use that domain extension. 😛

Thought I would share from Wikipedia:
.la – TLD for Laos, but marketed as the TLD for Los Angeles
.berlin – The proposed TLD for Berlin
.london - The proposed TLD for London

I am fine with "la" I guess, but .london and .berlin are WAYYYY too long. xD

It would be good to see states get these sorts of things and big towns around the world. Would be good for local businesses as Google could make it that .nyc domains only display to those in NYC if the webmasters want this.

I don't think it will be used "worldwide" because I think it will be mainly used by the people of NYC and those who run business there...

I am from NYC and as much as I LOVE my city, I can't see myself with a .nyc domain.

I think that it might be good for those who want to start a NYC website or one pertaining to a business in NYC, but I think that for other uses, it might be too restrictive..

I've had enough issues with people thinking that my place is a Twilight, porn or forum for Americans only, I wouldn't want someone to think that it is only for NY'ers as well..
