Obama will address students Tuesday in a national broadcast available on the Internet, cable television and satellite. The 15-to-20-minute speech is to begin at 10 a.m. local time.

Billings School District 2 Superintendent Jack Copps said his office has received numerous calls from parents concerned about the speech. Some callers didn't think elected officials should address students, while others simply don't want their children to listen to Obama, Copps said.

Nationally and locally, some people contacting schools have had the impression Obama is going to talk about health care and that students will be required to fill out a questionnaire afterward.

According to the White House Web site, the "president will talk directly to students across the country on the importance of taking responsibility for their education, challenging them to set goals and do everything they can to succeed."

"This is government," Copps said. "Whether you voted for this person or not, he happens to be our president."

Personally if they play it at my school (i'll assume they're going to) I won't watch it. I know a few people who are skipping school that day as well to just avoid dealing with it completely. I'm a free thinker and I don't believe in any sort of thing that *might* turn a child into thinking one way or another on any political issue without knowing and understanding all there is to know about each side, from every angle. I just find it extremely wrong that he's using basic brainwashing techniques (installing information into the youth) on us, it's something you'd expect out of a dictator to be honest.

It's not a political issue. It's just the president telling students that it's important to do the absolute best that they can in school. The United States is falling behind a LOT of other countries in education (I believe we are thirty-fourth now; THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES are surpassing us in education). The British spend three times more on education than Americans do and they have about a fifth of our population. That's just sad. That, compounded with the fact that students basically don't care about school (or just memorize for the test and then forget it all the next day), is the reason that we are falling behind.

@Snobothehobo
Yeah, I wish it was that simple. If you look at what the White House made it out to be first though, it was to cover the health care idea and such. Then once everyone got mad they quickly changed it to reflect more about the education system. I really wish I could say it was never intended to be used to brainwash, but then i'd be lieing out of my fingers. You can't argue that much, because it's plain as day that they were originally going to do it.

That's the main reason I won't be watching. If he's going to try and slip something like that, there's no telling what he'll do during the actual broadcast.

ghost, you said you need to see all of the sides and angles, I'd at least give obama's point of a view a try. It's true that the american public school system sucks, I've compared what I get in school to what others have in Poland and their school system is on a much higher level, this is from a country that was destroyed by Hitler and Stalin, and yet they still have smarter students than Americans do.

@Gimgak
I'd be more than happy to have watched assuming that it didn't start as an attempt at brainwashing the youth. I know perfectly well that America as a whole lacks a lot in the education area, I can tell just from looking at my friends. Either way, i'm all for education reform and i'd have been all for this speech about setting goals and such assuming it had always been just about setting goals. I'm having trust issues right now, something that no citizen should have with their government.

Ghost, it's not an attempt to brainwash you. Get real.

He's talking about trying to get children to stay in school, he's not trying to brainwash you. Jesus christ, why are so many of you guys getting brainwashed yourselves by reading/watching stupid glenn beck crap.

Glenn what?

It started out as a way to talk to the youth about his new health care plan, and there was going to be sample quizzes that the teachers could give out (though it wasn't required). If you ask me, any attempt to implant possible political views into children who may or may not be able to grasp everything at their age is brainwashing. The best time to develop a mind is when it is still developing itself. By him doing this in a school setting he was outcasting the parents, using the school's influence to promote his views with the parent not there to tell them otherwise while the information was being presented.

"Here, let me take your child away from you and show him some propaganda for my extremist views, i'm a terrorist in the making." - How does that differ, other than by topic, from what Obama planned to do?

He's not talking about healthcare, though. If he was talking about healthcare I'd be as against it as you do, we were discussing this on my forum earlier. He's not trying to brainwash kids. He's trying to talk to them about staying in school and getting a good education. Reagan did it, Bush sr did it, now Obama is doing it, but since Obama is a secret muslim terrorists, then it's a huge outrage.

Actually, I have to agree with ghost..on this matter..I think Obama will be america's frist dictator..other than that. He is just trying to use the youth to go agasint their parents on Obama's plan for healthcare.

So your not going to watch it just because you think Obama is terrorists because he is Muslim and part Arab. It is one thing you have listen and don't agree with his views but it is other thing you hate because of his race and religion.

It wasn't an outrage when Reagan and Bush did it because they were conservatives, so FOX News agreed with them.

Imagine the things that could be accomplished in the USA if its citizenry would just step outside the realm of FOX News.

I'm going to say it flat out, you need to get out more buddy. Obama is not a dictator, he's not trying to murder Christians, and he isn't a terrorist from Kenya trying to sell America to illegal aliens.

Unless you where in the classroom at the time of the discussion, you really shouldn’t be throwing out assumptions to others on your personal beliefs and supporting them as if they are facts. I try to look at all angles and point of views, and most importantly, I attempt to keep my facts straight and clearly separated from my thoughts of a debate. Ghost, your assumption Obama was discussing healthcare matters and such with the children is basically you forming an opinion with little/no evidence. Irviding, to say his opinion is incorrect is equivalent to falsely subjecting someone to a bias argument. Palace, unless Obama claims or states he is a dictator, I’ll have to assume he is my president.

Logically, I agree with Snobothehobo and Irviding, because I truly doubt Obama would be discussing healthcare with the youth of the nation. On the contrary, we have no information or the slightest evidence to conclude our president was or was not discussing healthcare or sharing encouragement to the children to succeed academically.

Sorry jughead, but there's nothing logical or correct about saying Obama is a dictator or he's trying to Murder christians.
