Obscure threads

Do you ever make obscure threads on forums to attract attention or to ensure that the topic has not been covered by any other threads before?

I've posted some "obscure" threads to attract attention before, it's rather easy and beneficial but I haven't done this for a while, I just think now it's considered spam and considering most admins are getting stricter with spam it would probably be deleted quite quickly. :lol:

What's an obscure thread? A thread about a very broad and unspecific topic? A thread that doesn't really ask or give any premise to discuss? I can't really think of any examples.
