I was intrigued by one local forum which allows spam posts in the off topic board. When I asked the admin, he admitted that they even encourage spam as long as it is posted in the off topic board. The rationale is that any post is a hit which increases the hit count regardless if the spam is in Russian or Thai which we don't understand. For forum owners here, do you agree with that reasoning?

I don't agree with that rational. If I am going to have a spam board, I am not going to allow it in a general off topic board, as I don't want legitimate discussions to be forced out of the way because of someone deciding to spam.

Nope, that's incredibly bad actually. Right now, we have a bunch of birthday events going on, but we don't allow any kind of spamming outside of that kind of thing. Not even forum games. Don't fancy logging into a full board of "drop something on the person below you" in the latest posts. It lowers the quality of your board, especially when it's small.
One of the perks for our founders was a secret forum where spam rules are lax and they can play forum games. They rarely use it. We don't mind though, but whenever a forum game rears it's ugly head, it gets moved to the hidden forum. A large chunk of our users have a founder or contributor tag, so we're not being mean. What's the point in having an inflated postcount on your forum if 80% of the posts are shitposts? XD

I would think every board that deals with discussions should be having well discussions going on. Obviously, the standard for what kind of discussion is taking place would be different from forum to forum as a debate forum should be a tad bit more serious then the off topic or general section where discussions can be of a more lighter less serious nature. There really shouldn't be any place for spam as it is just disruptive and doesn't contribute to anything. If you aren't here to have a discussion on something then why bother being on the board and posting at all? I hardly see what fun can be had from posting what is in essence nonsense on a board.
