Off World
The term off world derives its origin from sci-fi with its literal meaning "Off World". so my question for you is this! Would you live on another planet if you had the chance and will it become possible?

I believe that the rate we are going at we should be seeing human colonies on planets in our own solar system in the next 20-40 years. If NASA builds a luna base it could mean that rockets could be launched off the surface of the moon rather than earth. The Moons gravity is far weaker than the earths so it wouldn't take much to get a rocket off the ground which means you can build bigger. with less fuel.

It would make sense to me that we will become a space fairing spices...

Yeah. It's realistic to imagine a small human colony on Mars within the next couple decades. SpaceX is currently planning on launching their Dragon 2 capsule with humans on board next year, although the planned deadline may slip. They're trying to put humans on Mars ASAP, and will probably beat NASA there IMO.

Not sure what plans there are for building infrastructure on the Moon at the moment, but building a colony there is a solid idea. Any space colonization effort will need a lot of metal. We don't really know how much metal is on the moon, but there's bound to be some left there by meteors that have collided with the moon over the years. The Moon also has a much lower escape velocity, as you said. The best place to build is probably in Earth orbit or at the Lagrange points, because there's no gravity to escape there at all. But you need to get metal from somewhere, and it'd be damned expensive to launch it up on rockets.

Living in a bubble sounds quite depressing. I would hope it would at least be the size of a medium to large sized city compete with businesses, restaurants, bars/pubs & entertainment. 😀

It's going to be like battleship. They are going to come harvest us.

A little-known fact is that SpaceX has a contract with NASA, that's why there are 3-4 new modules to the ISS. Out of all the places to build the moon seems to be the best bet; you can mine for materials, build with some gravity and have a platform to launch. Building in space would be incredibly dangerous and slow, why? well, it is far easier to lose things like an entire module than if you were building on the moon. We have had cases of almost losing Satilights from a simple tap.

The only other factor is that building a rocket takes months on earth, and those building are protected from the atmosphere from solar radiation. you can still protect the builders on the moon in craters or in caverns, which are far larger than here on earth. The planned colony on Mars is planned to be in a cavern or crater to protect the astronauts from radiation.

You have to start somewhere, I mean NASA is planning on building a dome colony but what they plan to do with it is re-energise Mars's magnetic field creating an atmosphere, basically terraforming the planet. but if we find living life we can't do that.

we will meet hostiles at some point, the universe is big
