Does anyone happen to have experience with offline promotion? What I mean is like leaflets, notice boards, maybe even clothing that could be shipped via SpreadShirt or something.

Sure this depends a little on the niche, but I could see it worthwhile to ship a tshirt to users in exchange of having them to post a photo of themselves publicly.

Any ideas?

I think the shirt idea might be a good one. Thing is that offline promotion really depends of the niche . For a example a promotion forum wouldn't have as much success as a cooking blog in offline promotion.
Now on the other hand people might get lured in to your site if you give away a shirt for free if they do a thing, but it might be expensive to send to a lot of people. A contest could be a good thing. Like a beauty contest the winners get a free shirt or other stuff.
As said before it all depends on the niche and it depends on how good you plan the promotion.

Sure, but all marketing costs some money. I've dropped thousands of dollars in online marketing and not all of those have ended up in profit (overall yes, but you know what I mean).
I know it's impossible to make sure that one would get their photos or whatever back just by sending a shirt, so a competition of some sort might be a good idea. Make like 5-10 prizes available.

It might be the most secure idea, who doesn't like to brag about winning something 😀
And if the shirt are fashionable its even better. People will wear them and that means more promotion. The best offline method of promotion is word of mouth promotion. If your site helps people it will get popular fast 😀

The only IRL promotion I've done is tell friends about it.

I find that many of my friends aren't very interested in forums. So offline promotion to me really, is useless.

If Nerdie bought us Forum Promotion fleeces, I'd wear them all day every day.

Aside from that, promoting offline isn't something I feel would be largely beneficial unless you are able to be in an area where your target audience thrives.

Ex) Comics forum at a Comic Con

Er, yes, it's called CeBit

Oh cool, so now I could go to Australia (which is not my target) to promote to people (who obviously are not my target). Sounds like a damn good idea!

I don't really understnd why you throw in some very specific expo?

Because of:

a) My location; and
b) My demographic.

You *did* ask if I had experience in Offline Promotion. I had assumed if you'd wondered about the way we promote offline, hence why I posted the link to said expo. Perhaps you'd benefit from going to expos with *your* demographic.

Or you could keep asking here.

I see her point. Providing the link to an expo strictly related to you is vastly different from giving the more general (and useful) advice of going to expos relating to her demographic.

I quoted part of the post, which had a question, and I answered it. That's pretty much where it ends.

I'm pretty sure that just by physically being present wasn't the only thing you did, so elaborating *how* would be beneficial.

Well I don't know what sort of a site you have but in my instance, I go for an couple of reasons. CeBit is there - in the case of startup businesses like myself - to link to potential investors. So that's one reason I go.

Then there's the exhibitors you can click with. In my case I appeal to just about everyone that knows, or knows of, someone with an autism spectrum disorder. I'm one of the more unique businesses that would walk through the door and I go because it makes the expo a bit more interesting for the exhibitor.
