Why not try MyBB. With 1.8 under development, 1.6 under development and maintenance and 2.0 under discussion, i'm sure they would need more devs.

I do know how to program Android Apps, I just want a change from that. 😛

There is also SMF which since the final release of 2.0 has been truly open source.(BSD License)

There is also Gimp that is looking for more developers to fix bugs on the Windows Version.

I guess the main thing is what kind of projects do you wanna help with?

No what makes you say that, just because it went open source its dead? 2.1 is being worked on as we speak and is planned to be alot more modern.(and from what I have seen on the public alpha.. im loving it).

Heck SMF just recently had a security and bug fix update about 2 weeks ago now.

I don't believe the software is a "version" of any other software. It is an independent open source social networking project built from the ground up.

^This. I didn't see any mentioned about diaspora anywhere in that page.

Diaspora was an open source, distributed social network. I said that it's essentially a centralized Diaspora. The problem with Diaspora was that, for all of its funding, it was loaded with bugs. Besides that, how does this company plan to keep funded? Advertising?

I want to get involved in an open source software project, but I'm not to sure which one to get involved in, so I'd like your suggestions. It can be anything, from web based stuff to software like Chromium.

Also, I know about phpBB and MyBB obviously, so please don't recommend them.
