What do you do when you open a forum? How do you try to get the activity going? Do you have a competition to start everything off? How do you get your forum out there in like one day? Do you just request a lot of different services at promotion forums like here?

In one day its near impossible. First of all you need to create your forum. People want to join something that attracts them, so a nice logo, and premium theme are a big plus. As far as generating activity you wont see a lot of progress immediately. It's a long process to get even a few active members. Your forum needs to have original content and features that you can't find elsewhere. It's hard work but if you're dedicated to your project you can produce good results. You just have to stick with it.

Also posting packages are a good way of increasing your post count, but that is only temporary activity. Chances are the packager won't ever return unless you request another package from them.

I get some friends together to make a bunch discussions that way when I open it gives new users something to talk about.

Ive only really opened (been serious about) 3 forums. 1st one was Forum Advertiser. I got it all set up and posted a few topics on it, then advertised it in a couple places. Then I opened The Island. That one I had a few friends help me generate some discussions before I plugged it. Same with my current forum Wober.

Tell your friends before you open it that you're starting a forum, that way you will have a few people already interested in joining the day it opens.

Unfortunately, I always rushed when I opened forums, and this time around was no different. I'm lucky we made it to the point we're at today!

It takes time to run a good active forums. It important that you set it up right the first time.
